Everyone knows how The Odyssey ends. That spoiler is nearly 3,000 years old, so Christopher Nolan’s challenge was never what happens, but how to make the journey unforgettable on screen. His answer? Go big. Shot entirely on IMAX cameras, with a reported $250 million budget and a cast led by Matt Damon, Nolan’s epic gives one of literature’s greatest adventures the full big-screen treatment. Nolan adds a fresh psychological dimension to Odysseus’ journey, and the episodic storytelling gives the film the feel of a true odyssey. Audiences showed up, proving there’s still a huge appetite for bold, truly epic filmmaking. Now it’s heading home. You might not have an IMAX screen in your lounge room, but you can still get close to the scale, detail, and sheer impact Nolan intended. Great home entertainment like The Odyssey puts you inside the story, close enough to feel every clash of steel and crash of the sea. Odysseus took ten years to get home. You can make the journey in three hours from the comfort of your own home. Our advice? Put the phone away, dim the lights, turn it up, and let the voyage begin. Paul Jones, Editor-in-Chief

What’s one of your all-time favourite
films, and why? Tropic Thunder for the win! Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Downey Jr, do I even need to go on? This is definitely a movie that has stuck with me and will continue to be at the forefront of my vocal stims! This movie definitely makes me happy! What’s one of your all-time favourite TV series, and why? The Simpsons ! The people who know me know that I quote this series every single second I can. My brother and I grew up on it and therefore both use quotes in our everyday lives. When I come across someone who gets what episode I’m quoting it’s like I’ve met a real life angel. I watch quite a few movies, so the ones that I’ve kept coming back to are definitely any of the Terrifiers. The first time I watched Terrifier I was home alone sitting at my uncle’s, what a horrible life decision! Obviously I had to watch the second and third. They just got better and more gruesome! I’m definitely a fan! What have you been watching lately that you’d recommend?

The Odyssey marks the third time Anne Hathaway has worked with iconic filmmaker Chris Nolan, and it just keeps getting better and better.
I trusted his experience as a parent to guide me because, right now, my kids are a lot younger, and we are just in a cuddle fest all the time, so we haven’t hit that point yet,” says the actress who, incredibly, stars in three other films this year: The End of Oak Street , The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Verity . The story of The Odyssey has survived for nearly 3,000 years, and for good reason. It is a tale of adventure, courage, temptation, loss, and the powerful pull of home. At its centre is Odysseus, whose journey home after the Trojan War becomes a dangerous odyssey filled with monsters, gods, seductive temptations, and seemingly impossible challenges. But beneath all the spectacle lies something deeply human: a man desperate to return to the wife and son he left behind. For Hathaway’s part, she has been a fan of Greek mythology since her early teens. ”There’s something so powerful about the stories. They’re some of the first ones that our species ever came up with, that have endured as long as they have. ”So, there is something in the DNA of them that just makes sense, so I was just interested in them and dancing with them my entire life. But I never thought it would be

There goes the neighbourhood, thanksT.rex!
W hat would you do if you woke up one morning, looked out your front window, and discovered that your neighbourhood was overrun by dinosaurs? That's the unsettling premise of The End of Oak Street , a sci-fi adventure that takes the familiar comforts of family life and turns them into something prehistoric. Directed by David Robert Mitchell
“I’d always wanted to make a dinosaur movie since I was a kid. My dad was obsessed with dinosaurs, he dreamed of being a palaeontologist and was always reading dinosaur books,” says Mitchell. Inspiration eventually struck during a casual neighbourhood stroll. “I just imagined that there was a dinosaur there digging through the trash,” he recalls. “And I thought, ‘I want to make a movie that feels like this image in my mind’.” The result is a suburban setting where everyday family frustrations give way to an extraordinary fight for survival. For Hathaway, the premise brought to mind one of her favourite childhood films. “Reading the script, it reminded me of one of my favourite movies from when I was a
kid, which I probably shouldn’t have watched when I was a kid, but still, it was great: Poltergeist .” When she connected with Mitchell, the reference confirmed she was in the right place. “He said, ‘That’s what I was going for’. And I just said, ‘Well, I don’t know what’s

Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man is a sweet and syrupy smorgasbord of everything gross and gloopy.
D on’t let the colourful, sweet, ice cream-covered look of this movie fool you. This is very much a hardcore splatter flick, packed with blood, guts, and lots of sprinkles on top. Following the children of a small town who fall under the diabolical spell of a mysterious ice cream man, the film draws on Roth’s love of classic horror and cult cinema. ”There’s a lot of things that got in there, starting with The Birds ,” he explains. ”But then also The Bad News Bears and Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers . And I remember seeing the trailer for the movie The Children from 1980. That movie freaked me out.” Roth originally wrote the script in 2003 with Noah Belson, inspired by his fascination with killer-kid movies. But it was the 1976 Spanish horror classic Who MORE ELI ROTH TREATS:
get back to my roots, where it has that element of danger, but it’s like Pee-wee’s Playhouse on crack, splattered with blood, and you can’t believe what you’re watching.” Perhaps most confronting is that much of the violence is committed by children. Roth says the young cast embraced the material. ”The parents were all horror fans. They wanted their kids to be in this movie,” he explains. ”And the kids loved it! They know what this is.” Even the parents got into the spirit of the gore. ”All of the parents were angling for me to cover their kids in blood, and then we ran out of body parts.” For Roth, that’s precisely the point. ”It’s a horrible idea, and that’s what makes horror movies work. It’s a transgressive idea.” Glenn Cochrane

The Evil Dead returns, and nothing is off limits in this latest, unapologetically vicious entry.
M aybe the most shocking thing about Evil Dead Burn is that its young director, Sébastien Vani č ek, had no idea an entire trilogy existed before the 2013 reboot. “The first one I saw was Fede Álvarez’s 2013 movie and I was really, really shocked. I remember thinking, ‘What is this?’” admits Vani č ek. “Then I dug and discovered it was a remake of the movies from the '80s. I wasn’t a guy who watched movies from the '80s, so that was my first experience.” He subsequently discovered Sam Raimi’s work and felt an immediate connection. “He was 25 years old at the time and he was just really, really angry and just wanted to show things. And I was feeling the same way.” Perhaps that unfamiliarity with the original trilogy is ultimately an
advantage. With Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert retaining control of the franchise and carefully selecting filmmakers, Vani č ek has embraced the opportunity to surprise audiences. “It was so much fun. Playing with an amazing franchise that people love, and I tried to twist some things and be incorrect. I think that’s what fans want. The audience wants to be surprised, more than just being a fun film.” For Vani č ek, even the film’s outrageous gore has a purpose. “The script is always layer after layer, and the first layer is always character. It’s about characters and conflict between them. Then you add the layer of supernatural, you shake it up, and that’s when you discover the good bits.”
That philosophy extends to the kills. “What would happen that has meaning? Meaning is always the answer. And that’s why the kills in Evil Dead feel cathartic all the time.” Vani č ek also looked to the franchise’s past, particularly Evil Dead 2 . “That’s the first one that’s really putting rules in place and saying things about a bigger lore and a bigger universe.” The result is a film that acknowledges the franchise’s history while standing on its own. It's gruesome, ultra-violent, and deeply shocking, but also a worthy addition to the Evil Dead legacy. Glenn Cochrane

P eter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains one of cinema’s greatest achievements, setting the benchmark for epic fantasy. Amazon’s The Rings of Power returns to Middle earth, exploring Tolkien’s mythology on an equally ambitious television scale. The series emerged from a high stakes bidding war for the television rights, with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, a self-confessed Tolkien enthusiast, personally involved in negotiations. The result was a planned five season production that became one of television’s most expensive undertakings. Filmed in New Zealand, the series showcases breathtaking landscapes, elaborate sets, intricate costumes, and cutting-edge visual effects. From the towering halls of Khazad-dûm to the
island kingdom of Númenor, it delivers a cinematic experience worthy of Tolkien’s world, complemented by Bear
its “themes of hope, optimism, and the idea that everyone has a role to play”. When Amazon secured the project, one of his sons, a devoted Tolkien scholar, offered a simple plea: “Dad, please don’t eff this up!” Director J.A. Bayona, who helmed the first two episodes, believed television was ideal for Tolkien’s expansive mythology, giving the storytelling room to breathe. Acknowledging the challenge of following Jackson’s films, he welcomed the chance to explore previously unseen territory. “I think they did something very smart, which was to portray the Second Age, which is something we haven’t seen before.” Glenn Cochrane
McCreary’s evocative score. Drawing primarily from the
appendices of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings , the first season unfolds during the Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings . At its centre is Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), an Elven warrior determined to hunt down Sauron as an ancient evil begins to rise. Meanwhile, the Elves, Dwarves, and people of Númenor face their own challenges, with their stories converging towards the forging of the legendary Rings of Power. Speaking at the series’ world premiere, Bezos recalled falling in love with Tolkien’s universe at 14, drawn to

Someone at the gate? Movement in the driveway? These smart security cameras follow the action, capture the details, and help you keep tabs on your home – even when you’re not there. Words Scott Hocking HOME SECURITY THAT DOESN’T MISS A MOVE
HomeBase 3 or HomeBase Mini?
Both hubs bring cameras together in the eufy app, with local recording, AI recognition of familiar faces, and cross-camera tracking to help piece together what happened. Neither hub requires a monthly cloud-storage subscription for local recordings.* The biggest difference? Storage capacity. HomeBase 3 (S380) Included with the S4 and
E42 kits, this Homebase has 16GB built in, expandable to 16TB with a compatible HDD or SSD (sold separately). Customisable 24/7 Smart Snapshot takes images at intervals for a quick timeline catch-up. HomeBase Mini Included with the C37 kit, the mini offers 64GB built in, expandable to 1TB via microSD (sold separately).
eufyCam S4 2-Cam Kit with HomeBase 3 (S380) Best for: Wide driveways and front yards where you want the big picture and a closer look. Why settle for one view? The S4 combines a wide-angle 4K camera with a clever tracking camera that zooms in when something catches its eye. Two views, one clever camera A car pulls into the drive. Someone walks towards the door. The S4’s triple-lens setup combines a fixed 4K wide-angle view with a lower dual-lens 2K pan-tilt-zoom camera that uses 360° AI tracking. Never lose the plot Bullet-to-PTZ tracking switches movement from the wide view to a close-up. Auto-framing zooms in on one person, then pulls back when others appear, giving you context and detail. Sound the alarm Custom detection zones, red-and-blue warning lights, and a 105dB siren help to deter intruders. Radar and PIR detection help reduce false alerts, while a detachable 5.5W solar panel helps top up the battery in suitable sunlight.
* If you choose to use cloud-based features such as cloud storage or push notifications with thumbnail previews, videos or thumbnail previews will be sent to the cloud as needed to provide your selected features.
eufyCam C37 4-Cam Kit with HomeBase Mini Best for: Townhouses, compact yards, and narrow side paths. Small yard? Awkward side passage? The C37 kit brings four clever tracking cameras to those tricky spots that a fixed camera might miss. Small spaces, big coverage Each C37 cam captures in 2K and uses 360° AI tracking to follow movement. Position the four cameras around entrances, side access, and the backyard to cover more ground. Keep an eye on the night A built-in spotlight supports colour night vision, while AI detection distinguishes between people, vehicles, and pets. The spotlight and siren can give unwanted visitors a good reason to move along. Follow the sun Detachable 3W solar panels let you aim each camera for the best view and position its panel for better sunlight exposure. IP65 weather resistance helps outdoors, while HomeBase Mini stores footage locally.
eufyCam E42 4-Cam Kit with HomeBase 3 (S380) Best for: Larger properties needing sharp 4K coverage from four positions. Four cameras, four vantage points, and sharp 4K detail. The E42 kit helps you keep tabs on more of your property, without missing anything. Four sets of eyes Side gate, driveway, backyard, front entrance: give each E42 camera its own job. Each can capture 4K video and use 360° AI tracking to follow people and vehicles beyond a fixed angle.
Piece it together When an alert arrives, the extra detail helps you work out what happened. HomeBase 3 can link related clips with cross-camera tracking, so you can follow movement between cameras. A not-so-subtle warning Red-and-blue strobe lights and a siren help discourage unwelcome visitors. SolarPlus 2.0 supports battery charging in sufficient sunlight, while IP65 weather resistance helps the cameras handle the elements.
