# 1 MY FIRST ALBUM

Which recent album do you currently have on repeat?

My first album was Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock . It absolutely blew my mind and still does. I was about nine and I had got some money for a birthday or Christmas, can’t quite remember, and I went to Puckle Street, Moonee Ponds and there it was. I just loved all things Jimi and all things guitar. This album opened up the world to me. Although Jimi and that concert was way before my time, I always feel transported to that moment whenever I put it on. I feel like I can really see it and strangely felt seen by it. I’ve always felt grateful for Jimi and his work. Just so raw and so refined, so powerful and so delicate all at once. It would be remiss of me to not mention Mitch Mitchell, the greatest drummer of all time in my opinion. He and Jimi and Noel Redding made some incredible work together, though Noel was not on bass at Woodstock. Billy Cox played bass that day and he is also absolutely incredible. So, Jimi and particularly this live album really expanded and delivered my world. DAN SULTAN

favourite album and why? I have too many! A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out - Panic! at the Disco, Toxicity - System of a Down, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships - The 1975. Mainly because of nostalgia from my early-mid teens. Do you have a vinyl collection? If so, how did it begin, and expand? Yes! I wanted a turntable for Christmas one year and my first vinyl was Queen’s Greatest Hits . I currently have over 150 maybe? I have them all written down in my notes alphabetically by artist. What do you enjoy most about working in music at JB? I love seeing what new albums are coming out, or re-issues. I also love the JB exclusive pressings we get for vinyl.

to be? Aside from the horrendous amount of gear and lugging, I do fantasise about being a drummer. They’re just so plugged in to the mains; a great drummer is a foundational and electric element to any band, so maybe I’d be Ginger Baker. Yeehaw! What’s the most ridiculous item you’ve ever put on your rider? We requested a partridge in a pear tree on one Killing Heidi tour – to kind of take the piss out of bougie requests. We’d often get cute interpretations

of them – pictures, models, toys, and the like. It was very cute, the effort some venues would go to. Your funeral song? The Waterboys’ version of Van Morrison’s Sweet Thing . Even though it’s a bit emo, it’s uplifting and transcendent and rockin’. Happiness is… A late check-out! And coffee in bed.

Angela Autumn, my new favourite Americana folk-grunge darling. If you weren’t a rock star, what would you be? Probably a visual artist or an actor. Something just as impractical and dream-driven! Last album you bought? Believer by Angela Autumn (aforementioned Appalachian banjo grunge goddess) and Fortune Teller by Bobby Dove, a Canadian alt country crooner who I met at Americanafest in Nashville. Aside from yourself, which musician would you most like

Five words to describe yourself: Optimistic, poetic, contrary, driven, dreamer. Your all-time favourite album? Bob Dylan – Another Side of Bob Dylan . What did your most memorable school report say?
