MOVIES & TV SHOWS OUT THIS MONTH APRIL

THE EXORCISTS Hellraiser ’s Doug Bradley (AKA Pinhead) headlines this true story about three exorcists hired to purge a demon from a teenage girl before the Devil himself comes out to play. There’s no point denying that this is a The Exorcist knock-off movie, but it's fun stuff nevertheless. Director Jose Prendes’ production design is deliciously gothic, and the horror meets the prerequisites of the genre. Those disappointed with the recent The Exorcist: Believer might like to give this one a look.

TIME ADDICTS Fresh from the film festival circuit, Time Addicts is an instant cult hit. This sci-fi comedy follows drug dealers Denise and Johnny, who get caught in a time warp when Johnny tries a new drug which sends him to the past. Trapped in a drug den, the pair must alter the future to escape. A mix of Looper and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle , it's a unique must-see movie for its outrageous premise and ratbag humour.

V/H/S/ 85 + 94 The two most recent instalments of the innovative V/H/S found-footage franchise arrive on physical media on Blu-ray and DVD, in all their grisly glory. These two anthologies feature a cavalcade of directors, including horror maestros Adam Wingard ( You’re Next, King Kong x Godzilla ), Ti West ( X, MaXXXine ), Scott Derrickson ( The Black Phone, Sinister ), and David Bruckner ( Southbound, Hellraiser ), and well and truly earn their R18+ ratings. Essential for horror fiends.

80 FOR BRADY Would you believe it’s a true story? Hollywood’s silver vixens - Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin - team up for this unexpected comedy about four lifelong friends who travel to the 2017 Super Bowl to see their favourite player, Tom Brady, in action. In the tradition of Last Vegas , the movie is a light-hearted romp about old people doing young people things. It’s heaps of fun.

PLANET EARTH III The iconic Planet Earth trilogy concludes with this latest instalment, which explores the world’s greatest habitats and the extraordinary animals that live in them. From the depths of the ocean to the most remote jungles, discover the planet’s last great wild places and the astonishing strategies animals have evolved to survive. The series also looks at new challenges that wildlife faces in our modern and crowded world. Essential viewing for documentary lovers and trilogy completists alike.

DREAM SCENARIO Produced by cult filmmaker Ari Aster ( Hereditary ), Dream Scenario is a twisted fable that has Nicolas Cage treading familiar territory, recalling his Oscar-nominated performance in Spike Jonze’s surreal film Adaptation (2002). It tells the story of a family man who begins appearing in millions of people’s dreams, however his life takes a nightmarish turn when he’s forced to deal with the ugly realities of fame. If it sounds weird, that’s because it is. But it’s also excellent.

REVENGER: SEASON 1 Kurima Raizo swears vengeance after he’s misled into killing his prospective father-in-law. To reclaim his honour, Raizo joins the Revengers, a band of righteous assassins. Working as a hitman, he embarks on a journey to take revenge on behalf of those who have no power, and, along with his newly acquired colleagues, they build a bond that empowers them to take on the world’s worst criminals.

NIGHT SWIM Stephen King described Night Swim as being “like a lost, low budget Steven Spielberg film from Spielberg’s early period.” It's yet another quality offering from Blumhouse, and tells the story of a haunted pool and the family who come to own it. Although the concept seems silly on paper, the movie is an effective and conceptually simple horror flick that feels as though it belongs on a video store shelf in the early ‘90s, waiting to be discovered.
