HOOKED AGAIN! I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

The original I Know WhatYou Did Last Summer followed hot on the heels of Scream in 1997, penned by the same writer, Kevin Williamson, and cemented itself as a cult teen slasher of the ’90s.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

N ow, 28 years later, and riding the wave of the recent Scream legacy sequels, the hook-wielding fisherman returns to terrorise a new generation of teens – who turn to some very familiar faces to survive. Former teen icons Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. join the ensemble of fresh faces to not only provide a nostalgic hook for the Gen X-ers, but also connect the new story with the past. “Working with Freddie and Jen was amazing,” says director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. “It was

important to me to make sure that both of their stories felt like a continuation. We wanted to know, how would something like this affect them 27 years later? Who would they become, and how will that inform how they advise and help this younger group?” For Love Hewitt, returning for the new instalment was a no-brainer as soon as she new Robinson was involved, whose previous teen black comedy Do Revenge was a critical smash. “Jenn is truly passionate about I Know What You Did Last

Summer , and I found that to be so helpful,” she admits. “She loves Julie and Ray, the story, and even the Fisherman. So, all that love has gone into this new version, and you can see it and you can feel it.” Prinze Jr. felt the same way, commenting. “Jenn wasn't going to throw away the past. She treats it with the respect it deserves, while also demonstrating what makes her such an innovative writer and director.” Even so, he made sure to take the time to suss out Robinson’s

intentions before blindly signing on. “We had a conversation on what her vision for this movie and for these characters was, it was just so perfect, and I thought it was this beautiful way of handing the torch over to the next generation.” Glenn Cochrane

BLOOD IN THE WATER: DANGEROUS ANIMALS Get ready for a horror movie like no other - Dangerous Animals flips the script by fusing the serial killer and shark genres into a wild thrill ride unlike anything you’ve seen before. “I t’s that combination of killer shark movie and serial killer film, I hadn’t FUN FACT

Aussie cult film The Loved Ones . The story follows a charismatic fishing and diving boat captain, played by Jai Courtney, who lures in drifters and tourists -–then entertains himself by filming them being fed to sharks. Dangerous Animals is filled with wild nods to films and influences, which Byrne proudly wears on his sleeve as a true cinephile. “It’s crazy not to learn the lessons of Jaws , but there’s also The Silence of the Lambs in there, and in a way it’s

kind of Wolf Creek on water as well. I feel like it’s got a lot in common with that kind of unhinged charisma and it’s like how the spider catches the fly kind of thing. “But it’s also inspired by my love of '80s and '90s action cinema like Die Hard and Speed and wanting it to feel quite kinetic.” He adds with a smirk, “You know, I’m not really a slow burn kind of director. I’m more of an attacking director. So in a way, this is kind of a horror action movie.” Glenn Cochrane

seen that before,” says director Sean Byrne, explaining the appeal of the project from the outset. “The cynical marketing side in me was like, ‘Wow, that’s two really popular subgenres of horror’ and if you can get both of those audiences, the shark audience is really loyal and it holds up as a serial killer film.” Indeed, Dangerous Animals is quite a twisted tale, and arguably one of the best horror movies of the year. That should come as no surprise knowing that Byrne is a guy behind the seminal
