4K UHD HIGHLIGHTS

Words Glenn Cochrane

Get out the feather dusters and make some room on your shelves, for the latest wave of 4K UHD releases has arrived! Here are the standout titles arriving this month.

DAY OF THE WOMAN: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE & I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE: DEJA VU UMBRELLA Highly controversial on release and still confronting today, Meir Zarchi’s 1978 cult shocker I Spit on Your Grave (aka Day of the Woman) remains a brutal cornerstone of the revenge genre. Chronicling one woman’s merciless retaliation after a savage assault, it’s an uncompromising descent into exploitation cinema at its most extreme. This gnarly double pack also includes the 2019 direct sequel, with the original presented in striking 2160p UHD with Dolby Vision and robust DTS-HD MA audio options. Out Mar 4

NO ESCAPE UMBRELLA If the cover art looks familiar but the title doesn’t ring a bell, that’s because No Escape was originally released in Australia as Escape from Absolom . Shot entirely in Australia, this 1994 cult favourite mashes up Escape from New York, Mad Max, and The Most Dangerous Game into a brutal survival of-the-fittest tale set on a fortified prison island in a dystopian future. This new 4K release delivers 2160p UHD with Dolby Vision, plus commentaries, interviews, featurettes, and more. Out Mar 4

PANIC ROOM AID Following Se7en , The Game, and Fight Club , David Fincher delivered another sleek, highly stylised thriller, described at the time as a collision of Rear Window and Straw Dogs . Centring on a wealthy mother and daughter trapped in their home’s panic room during a violent invasion, it’s a taut, suspenseful, Hitchcockian exercise in escalating tension. This impressive release features Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz/24-bit), making it an essential addition for Fincher fans. Out Mar 25

SAW IV VIAVISION Fresh off the recent swanky limited edition releases of the first three Saw films, ViaVision turns its attention to Saw IV with an equally deluxe 4K UHD + Blu-ray release, housed in a 3D lenticular hardcase and accompanied by art cards. Packed with bonus content including commentaries and featurettes, this fan-focused edition delivers the theatrical cut in crisp 4K with premium HDR and immersive Atmos audio, alongside the unrated cut on Blu-ray with robust surround sound options. Out Mar 25

JARHEAD AID Sam Mendes followed American Beauty with Jarhead , a stark, introspective war film that sidesteps combat spectacle in favour of psychological tension and dislocation. Based on Anthony Swofford’s memoir, it captures the boredom, bravado, and quiet trauma of modern warfare during the Gulf War. This 4K release presents the film in native 2160p with Dolby Vision and HDR10, alongside Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz/24-bit) audio, delivering a definitive home cinema upgrade for this modern war classic. Out Mar 18

THE PRINCE OF EGYPT AID DreamWorks’ The Prince of Egypt remains one of the studio’s most ambitious and visually striking achievements, retelling the story of Moses with epic scope, emotional weight, and a powerhouse musical score. Blending traditional animation with early CG, it’s a bold, reverent take on biblical storytelling that still resonates decades on. This new 4K release presents the film in native 2160p with HDR10, alongside DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (48kHz/24 bit), making it a must-have upgrade for animation fans and collectors. Out Mar 18

GREMLINS ROADSHOW Long overdue and very welcome, Gremlins finally arrives locally in 4K, bringing Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg’s beloved creature feature into crisp high definition. Centring on mischievous Mogwai who turn monstrous when three simple rules are broken, it’s a holiday staple and a gateway horror classic for generations of movie kids. This release presents the film in native 2160p with HDR10 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit), making it an essential addition for serious collectors. Out Mar 18

KUNG FU PANDA 3 & 4 AID Following the recent 4K upgrades of the first two films, Kung Fu Panda 3 and Kung Fu Panda 4 arrive on UHD, rounding out Po’s big-screen adventures in style. The third film expands the mythology with dazzling visuals and heartfelt humour, while the fourth delivers fresh energy and new villains. Both releases are presented in upscaled 2160p with Dolby Vision and HDR10, alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio, making them essential additions for animation fans and franchise completists. Out Mar 18
