WELCOME
Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked isn’t just another product launch. It’s an annual event on the tech calendar where we discover where smartphones are headed next. This year Samsung has unpacked the Galaxy S26 series, led by the flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra, and it feels less like a bump in specs and more like a shift toward greater personalisation and privacy. It’s not just about bigger numbers or faster chips; it’s what’s quietly working in the background to make Galaxy users’ lives easier. Galaxy AI continues to become more proactive, with intuitive new features like Now Nudge organising and streamlining your day before you even realise you needed help – it’s subtle, and seamless! The Galaxy S26 Ultra might well be the premium smartphone you’ve been waiting for, with supercharged performance and a brighter, refined 200MP camera. But perhaps the most exciting upgrade is the S26 Ultra’s exclusive new Privacy Display, which can adjust visibility from different angles to prevent prying eyes scoping out your screen during crowded commutes.
Add spacious displays, smoother performance, and fast charging that keeps pace with real life, and you’ve got another big leap forward for Samsung.

Samsung has unpacked the latest S-series smartphones – the flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra, the Galaxy S26 base model, and the Galaxy S26+. Get ready for even more intuitive Galaxy AI, brighter cameras, greater privacy, and supercharged performance. Words Scott Hocking THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S26 GALAXY S26 ULTRA IS THE FLAGSHIP PHONE YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!

crowded train, there’s always the chance that stickybeaks will attempt to check out what’s on your phone’s screen. But if you have the Galaxy S26 Ultra, its exclusive new Privacy Display can keep your screen hidden from any prying eyes. How does it work? A fusion of hardware, One UI 8.5 software and Samsung Display’s Flex Magic Pixel tech, the screen can adjust visibility, limit what others can see from various angles, or make the screen invisible to everyone but you. Even better, it can be set to auto activate based on location, notification alerts, or when using certain apps, such as banking. As they say on Star Trek , “Shields up!” Brighter camera While packing the same precision 200MP wide main camera as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the S26 Ultra offers some notable refinements, including improved aperture and an upgraded ProVisual engine – the suite of AI-powered photography tools that offer plenty of creative freedom. This is also the brightest Galaxy camera to date, promising exceptional performance day or night, with Samsung’s high-resolution
Nightography mode for optimising after-dark shots and video noise reduction. High-resolution photos and video can be enhanced and stabilised by a super steady horizontal lock function for cinematic results, while the updated Photo Assist brings intuitive photo editing, enhanced image generation, and the ability to instantly search, add, or remove objects from an image, change styles, and even reimagine your photos using prompts from your gallery. The Galaxy S26 Ultra quad camera system also features a 50MP ultra-wide, two telephoto lenses at 50MP and 10MP, plus a front 12MP selfie camera with a wide field of view. The base Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ models both pack a 50MP wide main camera, with high-res Nightography and many of the photo editing tools found on the S26 Ultra. Supercharged performance The latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor – an upgrade over the S25 Ultra – brings an improved NPU to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, supercharging processing speeds and delivering smarter assistance, giving you a phone that feels faster and more intuitive than ever.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI assistant continues to evolve to better adapt to your needs. Where the Galaxy S25 series ushered in the handy Now Brief feature, which delivers at-a-glance updates based on the time of day, the S26 series introduces another cool and proactive feature called Now Nudge – powered by One UI 8.5. Building on the Smart Suggestions widget, Now Nudge can intuitively deliver help and info on the fly, based on what’s currently on your screen as well as learned routines and regular usage. For example, if you get a text message from a friend asking when you’re free for a catch up, your calendar schedule is scanned and a suitable time suggested – all without you needing to ask, or lift a finger! The new Creative Studio unlocks even more possibilities, such as creating stickers for socials or personalised party invitations using a photo or text prompt. You’ll also enjoy smoother visuals and more responsive gameplay, along with ultra fast charging. Plus, the new One UI 8.5 software promises enhanced productivity, privacy, and performance across the Galaxy ecosystem. Spacious screens The Galaxy S26 Ultra sports the same spacious 6.9-inch screen as its predecessor, albeit now with the aforementioned Privacy Display. The Galaxy S26 gains an inch over the S25 with a 6.3” FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, while the Galaxy S26+ ups that to a generous 6.7 inches in line with last year’s model. ProScaler – the AI-based image and video enhancement tech introduced on the S25+ and S25 Ultra – is inbuilt across all three S26 models, boosting sharpness and colour in real time, adding more graphic detail to lower resolution content. All-day batteries The Galaxy S26 is the only phone in this new line to receive a battery boost, with 4,300mAh
compared to the S25’s 4,000mAh. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has the same
5,000mAh battery as the S25 Ultra, albeit with fast charging bumped up to 60W from 45W, while the Galaxy S26+ also shares the same charge capacity of 4,900mAh and 45W fast charging as its predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy S26 series at a glance

When wireless can be best While a hardwired camera is the more secure option, sometimes a wireless camera can be a better fit for your home. • If you're renting, for instance, you may not be able to get approval for a hardwired camera, nor can you bring it with you once you vacate the property. • Wireless cameras can also be easily positioned or moved wherever • Wireless cameras also offer simple DIY installation, are more convenient to set up, and adding extra cameras is easy. If you only need a temporary security setup, they're less of an investment. • If you want the best of both worlds, some cameras offer both wired and wireless connection options. you need them to be – indoors or outside – via simple DIY setup.
Security cameras are great for home protection and peace-of-mind.Wireless cameras can be convenient and easy to install, but for a long-term, serious solution to your security needs, a wired camera is the way to go. Here's why… Words James O’Connor 5 REASONS TO LOVE A WIRED SECURITY CAMERA
Unlimited power A wired security camera maintains a constant connection via a physical cable, which means it'll always be active whenever your router is turned on and the cable is plugged in. Pair your router with an uninterrupted power supply unit and you'll be able to keep on recording 24/7 – even during a power outage. You won't need to recharge batteries periodically – simply set the camera up and forget about it until you need it. Power Over Ethernet (POE) Modern wired security cameras can be tethered via a single ethernet cable, which handles both data and power to the device. Not only does this mean that the cabling is clean, as you don't need an additional power outlet, it also keeps power consumption low and means that the camera's connection to the internet stays strong and consistent.
A strong, stable connection A direct, wired connection can deliver better connectivity and signal stability. Cables have a firm link to your router, and are
Pro installation When installing a hardwired security camera on your property, it's important that the job is performed by a licensed electrician, as cables may need to be run through walls or ceilings, or multiple cameras routed to a central location. It also protects you from hazards, as well as potential legal problems from faulty cabling. The electrician will, in some states, also require security licensing to perform the job, so make sure they have all the necessary qualifications. Most wired indoor cameras don’t require an electrician, as they use a standard power adapter that can be plugged into a wall outlet.
less vulnerable to cyber threats. While it’s a lot harder to tamper with a wired connection, many wired cameras still allow a back-up Wi-Fi connection in a pinch, so you can tether from a mobile device if your internet goes down. Wired cameras can also typically have higher bandwidth for higher-resolution video footage (up to 4K in some models) with less compression. A wired connection also means greater stability for multiple
cameras on a single system, as they won't clog your Wi-Fi bands. Better for storage A big advantage of a wired camera is that you can connect it directly to a local storage hub and automatically store all of your files. This means that, with a big enough hard-drive, you can collect huge amounts of footage and data without having to pay ongoing subscription fees for cloud storage.

You don't need to be Martin Scorsese to appreciate a good pan, tilt, or zoom. A security camera with these features can give you wider, better coverage of your property or business. Let's zoom in on what makes pan-tilt-zoom cameras worthwhile. Words James O’Connor PAN-TILT-ZOOM SECURITY CAMERAS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
What do they do? Pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) security cameras do exactly what the name suggests: pan, tilt, and zoom in to better track any motion in their field of view. They can be set to auto-track people and vehicles, so you can, for example, see the exact movements of anyone who comes in through your gate, or identify who is letting their dog poop on your lawn. You can also set them to lock on to and follow moving vehicles or people, and they can track potentially suspicious people that pass by your home multiple times. The viewing angle can be adjusted remotely, so you can zoom in and check on that noise you heard outside, or track action that’s happening out on the street.
Superior coverage PTZ cameras aren’t set to a single angle, enabling them to capture greater detail over a wider area. If they're monitoring a large backyard, or you have multiple entry points into your home, a fixed camera won't necessarily catch everything. Movement gives these
Flexibility and extra control are some of the key benefits of these cameras. Prime positioning A PTZ camera will be most effective in an area where it can capture the widest coverage, without anything blocking its field of view. Positioning one high
up over your yard may give you total visibility of the entire area, whereas a driveway cam can reveal the licence plates of anyone parking outside your house. They can be particularly useful for businesses, too, allowing easier
cameras a lot more viewing angles, and the zoom functionality is particularly useful for getting up close on faces, licence plates
of cars that park or pass by, and catching details that might be missed at a wider angle. The high-quality video of modern security cameras means you can nab distant details at a high resolution, too, without pixelation. Setting schedules PTZ cameras come with multiple functions, schedules, and tracking patterns, and can be set to match your surveillance needs – for example, a consistent pan during the day while you're out, which can be adjusted for motion sensitivity. You might want more alert notifications while you’re on holiday, or for the camera to move more often to eliminate any blind spots.
identification of any would-be burglars, and keeping an eye on the street. Pairing with a fixed camera PTZ cameras are flexible, but can't always capture everything – as they move, certain angles may not be captured across every shot. Consequently, they're even more effective when paired with a fixed camera that can capture a specific area. Hybrid models and combo camera kits that integrate a fixed wide-angle camera and a PTZ camera in the one device give you the best of both worlds – and greater peace of mind.

Smart security cameras are a simple way to beef up your home protection – and peace of mind. This ten-point checklist can help you pick the security camera or system that will work for best you. Words Bec Summer
Installation Wired cameras need to be connected to a power source and may require professional installation. They’re great for a permanent setup, but you’ll need to factor in cabling and placement. Wireless cameras are more DIY-friendly. Most can be installed using basic tools, and indoor models usually come with a stand for placement on a shelf or bench. Wall-mounting? Grab a drill, screwdriver and maybe a ladder, and you’re good to go.
Not keen on another monthly bill? Look for cameras with local storage via microSD cards, or a compatible hub that stores footage to a hard drive at no extra cost. Some brands even bundle a hub or HDD in the box. Image resolution Go for the highest resolution your budget allows. FHD 1080p works well for every day monitoring. Step up to 2K for sharper clarity, especially when zooming in. Need to capture licence delivers ultra-crisp footage and is ideal for covering large areas. Field of View (FOV) FOV is how much area the camera can see. A wider FOV covers more space and reduces blind spots, while a narrower view can capture finer detail in smaller zones. Some cameras offer wide views with pan-tilt zoom functionality, so they can follow motion and monitor an entire area. Colour night vision Colour night vision gives you clearer, more detailed images in low light, using ambient light or built-in spotlights to enhance clarity. Intelligent recognition Smart cameras can tell the difference between plates or clear facial details? 4K resolution
a person, animal or vehicle and send tailored alerts. Just note that advanced recognition features may require a subscription fee. Some models
take it further with AI-powered facial recognition that learns familiar faces, helping reduce unnecessary notifications and keeping alerts relevant. Battery life Some wireless cameras can keep watch for up to six months on a single charge, depending on usage. High-res recording, continuous capture, and frequent spotlight use can drain the battery faster. For outdoor setups, solar charging is a smart move. Look for cameras with built-in solar panels or the option to connect an external one. Weather resistance Outdoor cameras are generally weatherproof, but always check the IP rating. The higher the rating, the better the protection against water and dust. Smart home connection Already using a smart home system like Alexa, Apple Home, or Google? Make sure your camera is compatible so everything works seamlessly together. Devices that support the Matter standard offer even greater flexibility across platforms.
Renting If you’re renting, wireless cameras are the easy win. They’re portable, simple to install, and won’t leave any damage behind. Many indoor cameras can sit neatly on a shelf or cupboard – no drilling required. And when it’s time to move, just pack them up and take them with you. Subscription fees Some cameras require an ongoing subscription to unlock continuous recording, rolling cloud storage, and advanced features like parcel detection, pet recognition or custom activity zones. Many brands offer a free trial, but when it ends you might lose access to recordings and be left with live view only.

Light temperature plays a powerful role in how a space feels. Warm light can create a sense of comfort and relaxation, making it ideal for dining rooms and bedrooms, while cooler tones promote alertness and clarity, which is why they’re often used in kitchens and workspaces. Your guide to creating frozen treats at home
If there’s one thing that can instantly upgrade your kitchen’s fun factor, it’s an appliance that can quickly turn everyday ingredients into icy treats like slushies, ice cream, gelato, party cocktails, and more. Here’s what you need to know about frozen treat makers. Words Scott Hocking
Are they easy to use? Very. Most frozen treat makers have one touch programs that handle speed, time, and temperature for you. You just prep the base, press a button, and let the machine do its thing. Preparation time can vary depending on the type. Pre-freeze models generally require a bowl or base that’s been pre frozen overnight, but the actual churning can take as little as five minutes. Machines with built-in cooling or drink focused designs can turn liquids into frozen treats in roughly 15 minutes, depending on volume and ingredients. Either way, it’s mostly hands-off – and a lot easier than it sounds.
T hese countertop appliances, designed to turn liquids or pre-frozen bases into delicious desserts, ice cream, and frozen drinks, have quickly become a must-have for the kitchen bench. Some churn, some shave, some freeze as they go, and some do a bit of everything. But what they all have in common is they’ll save you
trips to the servo, café, or ice cream shop – and let you play mad scientist with flavours and mix-ins at home. Size-wise, they range from compact units to larger machines built for entertaining. If bench space is precious, check capacity and footprint before committing – especially if you’re eyeing something party-sized. What can they make? Depending on the type of machine, frozen treat makers can whip up scoopable classics like ice cream, gelato, and frozen yoghurt, as well as lighter options like sorbet and fruit-only desserts. Many can also make frozen drinks such as slushies, frappés, milkshakes, frozen juice blends, iced coffee, and cocktail-style creations. More versatile models can blur the line between desserts and drinks, giving you more flexibility. Prefer a thick, spoonable texture to a pourable one? Simply select a different program or tweak the temperature.

Your guide to creating frozen treats at home
CONTINUED
What are the main types of frozen treat makers? • Ice cream and frozen dessert makers These are your traditional-style machines, designed to churn a cold mixture into ice cream, gelato, frozen yoghurt, or sorbet. Some use a pre-frozen bowl that you keep in the freezer, while others have built-in cooling systems that freeze as they churn. They’re great for families, batch making, and classic scoopable ice cream.
• Shave-and-spin style machines Instead of churning liquid, these machines start with a solid frozen base and shave it down to an ultra-smooth texture. The result is creamy, dense, and surprisingly close to store-bought ice cream or soft serve. They’re also big on customisation, letting you add mix-ins like chocolate, nuts, or fruit after the main spin. • Soft serve specialists Some machines can include dedicated soft serve programs and dispensing handles, turning your kitchen bench into a mini dessert bar – sprinkles optional, but welcome! If soft serve ice cream is your go-to indulgence, you’ll get that same smooth, airy texture you enjoy from an ice cream store or van. • Slushie and frozen drink makers These dedicated drink machines freeze liquids evenly without ice, so flavours stay bold and textures smooth. They’re perfect for juice, soda, coffee-based drinks, and party-ready frozen cocktails. Some can even keep drinks frozen for hours, so you can pour on demand.
• All-in-one hybrids These multitaskers combine several of the above functions into one unit, with preset programs for different textures and treat styles. If you like variety (and hate clutter), a combo model is the way to go.
Customising your frozen treats One of the biggest advantages of making frozen goodies at home is control. You choose the ingredients, which means you can go classic and indulgent, or adapt recipes for low sugar, dairy-free, vegan, or high-protein options. Many machines include mix-in functions that gently fold extras into your finished treat, so chunks stay chunky. You can also adjust thickness, re-spin for extra creaminess, or split batches into different flavours from the same base.
Things to know before you buy
Some machines require bowls or
tubs to be pre-frozen overnight, so freezer space matters as
much as bench space. Others freeze as they go – great for sudden cravings, but it can take a bit longer to create the perfect texture. • Capacity matters – smaller units are great for personal treats and quick experiments, while larger machines are better suited for families and entertaining. • Noise levels can vary – shave-and-spin styles, in particular, can sound more like a blender than a whisper-quiet appliance. • Check customisation options – if you love mix-ins, soft serve, or tweaking textures, choose a machine that gives you that flexibility.
When you’re done The good news is that most frozen treat makers are designed with easy cleanup in mind. Removable tubs, paddles, and lids are often dishwasher safe, and some machines even include rinse or self-clean programs. Do I need one? If you love ice cream, tasty frozen desserts, entertaining, or just messing around with flavours, absolutely! Frozen treat makers aren’t just about dessert and drinks – they’re also about having fun. They turn your kitchen bench into an ice cream station, dessert bar, or party HQ – and of course they’re a big hit with kids! Ultimately, any appliance that can whip up delicious ice cream or slushies whenever you want them deserves a spot on the kitchen bench.
