RE-SOULED
Ringo writes The album features Ringo Starr’s first songwriting credit – for What Goes On , where he is credited alongside Lennon and McCartney. Life’s work John called In My Life “my first real major piece of work”. You Jane I’m Looking Through You and You Won’t See Me were inspired by Paul’s relationship with Jane Asher. They announced their engagement on Christmas Day 1967 but broke up the following year. By George George wrote If I Needed Someone for Pattie Boyd, who he married the month after Rubber Soul was released. Jeff Jenkins

It was the Fab Four’s first masterpiece. It’s now been reissued. Rubber band
R ubber Soul is a remarkable record. When Brian Wilson first heard it, his mind was blown. He was so inspired, he locked himself up and created The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds . Paul McCartney saw the album as “the beginning of my adult life”, while John Lennon said: “You don’t know us if you don’t know Rubber Soul .” As The Beatles’ sixth studio album gets the deluxe reissue treatment, here are eight things you should know:
Cover me The album cover was an accident. When photographer Robert Freeman was showing how it could look, his projected image was slightly elongated. The band loved it. Air sitar The first time an Indian sitar was featured on a Western pop song? That would be Norwegian Wood , featuring George Harrison on sitar.
In the US, blues musicians derided The Rolling Stones,
calling their sound “plastic soul”. The Beatles were amused by the phrase, deciding to tweak it to “Rubber Soul”. Who’s that band? The Beatles were so big in 1965, Rubber Soul was their first album not to feature their name anywhere on the cover.
WINTER SONGS A nyone who saw Geese in Australia earlier this year knows that Cameron Winter is a potent live performer. Geese frontman Cameron Winter releases a solo live album.

Live at Carnegie Hall by Cameron Winter is out Oct 9 via Partisan
On December 11 last year, Winter, then 23, became one of the youngest performers to headline the legendary New York venue Carnegie Hall, which was captured for the new album, Live at Carnegie Hall . The show was stark but epic, with Winter alone on stage, back to the audience, crouched over the piano, performing the Heavy Metal tracks as well as unveiling three previously unreleased songs – It All Fell in the River , Emperor XIII in Shades , and If You Turn Back Now . The performance was also filmed by Oscar-winning director Paul Thomas Anderson for the concert film Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall . Jeff Jenkins
“Winter, who most of the time sounds like Julian Casablancas doing a spot-on Thom Yorke impression, is the captivating eye of the storm,” concluded the Rolling Stone rave. Running alongside his work with Geese, Winter also has his own solo career, releasing the album Heavy Metal in 2024. Nick Cave was just one fan enraptured by the record, calling it “startling” and “wigged-out”. Cave hailed Winter’s “glorious, emotive voice with brilliant, blistering words”, calling the album “a racked and wondrous thing”.
