board - well written, beautifully shot, skillfully directed, and powerfully performed. Director Joel Souza, who was also injured by the fateful bullet that claimed Halyna Hutchins’ life, has delivered a sweeping epic that is richly textured, multilayered, and told with utmost sincerity. All of the central characters are thoroughly fleshed out, each given moments of reflection and candour. Souza ensures time is spent with even the peripheral players, adding depth to the world he builds. Alec Baldwin, who also served as co writer and producer, delivers one of the finest performances of his career, clearly pouring personal investment into the role. Given that additional photography was required to complete the film - and that the scene at the centre of Halyna’s death was removed - Rust becomes a fascinating watch, prompting curiosity about which scenes were filmed after the tragedy. Baldwin’s moments in the third act are so emotionally charged that one can’t help but wonder if they were captured after the fact. film’s emotional weight. His character is effectively the lead, and he commands every moment of his screen time. One can only hope that Rust becomes a stepping stone rather than a burden for him - he deserves a bright future. Travis Fimmel in a standout role as The Preacher, a merciless bounty hunter. Fimmel, one of the most charismatic actors of his generation, is magnetic on screen. While some may view the film’s completion and release as being in poor taste, it’s important to know that Rust was finished at the express request of Halyna’s husband and mother, both of whom wanted the world to see her artistry. Thank goodness for their insistence, because the film is, above all, gorgeously made. Every frame is stunning, capturing the rugged, wild beauty of the American frontier with an artist’s eye. From awe-inspiring sunsets to snow-swept mountain landscapes, the film unquestionably tragically lost her life in an accidental shooting during the production of Rust .
