Jordie Lane # 1 MY FIRST ALBUM

What’s an early, cherished music memory? My dad blasting Du Hast by Rammstein in the car on the way to get me McDonalds when I was seven. Which recent album do you currently have on repeat? Dance Mode by Bluey, because of my daughter! But I secretly enjoy it too. What’s your all-time favourite album

I was in Year 7 when I officially bought my first album. I can’t forget buying 100% Hits Volume 11 on cassette, and Spice Girls’ Wannabe CD single, which I went halvies on with my best mate, Josh. But I’m not sure those count, so I have to say my first album was Spiderbait’s Ivy and the Big Apples . I just loved that record! Spiderbait was also the first proper rock concert I ever went to. At The Palace, in St Kilda, the one next to the Palais, which eventually burnt down. I was pretty excited to meet one of the band members, Kram, many years later, when we were both on the bill for the Community Cup. I don’t think I ever told him how much of a fan I was. I just tried to play it cool.

AUGUST

and why? Story’s Start or End by Safia. It played during a shift years ago and I was hooked straight away. I can listen to it on repeat without getting sick of it. Do you have a vinyl collection? If so, how did it begin, and expand?

’ s ROVING REPORTER

Yes. Albums I loved started to arrive in store on vinyl a couple years ago, so I decided to invest in a good Audio Technica vinyl player. I love collecting the limited edition coloured vinyls of artists I like. What do you enjoy most about working in music at JB? Discovering different artists that may not have seem interesting to me before through work and customers.

disappointingly fair, but I do remember a time I got a few Liquorice Allsorts in amongst the cheese platter. It was a great day! Your funeral song? You’re Dead – Norma Tanega. It’s a banger! Happiness is… Chocolate followed by a whisky. No, whisky followed by chocolate. Actually, all of the above.

These plans were derailed by music! I’m forever grateful. Last album you bought? Reissue of Jonathan Richman’s Jonathan Goes Country . Aside from yourself, which musician would you most like to be? Demis Roussos. What’s the most ridiculous item you’ve ever put on your rider? All my requests are

What would be your Hard Quiz expert subject? The Masters of the Universe universe, or maybe Johnny Cash – American Recordings era. Song you wish you’d written? Long Black Veil . If you weren’t a rock star, what would you be? An academic, with even thicker rimmed glasses, and a wood lined office with leather chairs.

Five words to describe yourself: Hairy, hungry, happy, hardworking, hopeful. Your all-time favourite album? Harvest – Neil Young. What did your most memorable school report say? I was always called a chatterbox. This will not surprise anyone.
