We’re past the halfway mark of 2024 already, so what better time to check in on some of the hot gaming titles that are still on their way before we make the leap into 2025? Words Amy Flower

ASSASSIN’S CREED SHADOWS Release date: 15/11/24

Since our first meeting in PS VR, Astro Bot has gone on to help us all get acquainted with our PlayStation 5 consoles. Now he’s back in a huge new space adventure infused with platforming fun, and all of the nods to new and old PS games and tech that we’ve come to expect. There are six galaxies to explore, featuring over 80 levels, with the aim of reuniting Astro’s scattered crew.

Set in the early 1990s, this year’s model is set to involve us in a Gulf War era drama that blends fact and fiction. Campaign-wise, we’re promised a blend of previous Black Ops titles with both returning and new characters, and ‘90s-themed weapons. Multiplayer will launch with 16 brand-new maps, while the fan favourite zombies makes a return, complete with two shiny new maps.

The next instalment in the storied series takes us to 16th century Japan, during the Azuchi Momoyama era. We’ll step into the footwear of two distinct characters whose stories intertwine. One is a Japanese shinobi named Naoe, while the second a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke, as they set out discover their common destiny while ushering in a new era for Japan.

Ever wanted an ant’s eye view of the world? Here comes your chance, with the game adaptation of French author Bernard Werber’s sci-fi trilogy Les Fourmis . Developed in Unreal Engine 5 and looking simply stunning, gameplay wise it takes a third-person, real-time strategy angle as you – an ant designated 103,683rd - aim to assure your colony’s survival.

The long gestating fourth main game in BioWare’s revered action RPG series continues to make its way to us, complete with a name change. But the core remains, and that’s a whole new sequel to 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition . The land of Thedas needs a new leader, and guess what? That’s you! Create a brave fellowship as you bring a team together to ensure the future of your vibrant land.

It’s soon going to be time for the fourth instalment in the Dragon Ball Sparking! action battle game series, which we previously knew in the west as Budokai Tenkaichi . We’ll once again be battling legendary characters – both new and returning – as we relive epic battle moments from throughout the much-loved series, or create our own custom clashes and share them with the world.
