TINA TURNING HEADS We’re still hurting over the fact that Tina Turner’s endless legs are no longer high-kicking around this mortal coil, so news of Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll – which contains all 55 of her singles, released between 1975 and 2023 – could not come at a better time. One of the best-selling artists ever,Tina sold in excess of 100 million records, and this force of nature’s raspy vocals and survivor spirit will live on forever through her extraordinary legacy. Glean more info on five songs from this incredible anthology below. Words Bryget Chrisfield

What’s Love Got to Do With It The story goes that Tina didn’t rate What’s Love Got to Do With It – her version of which went on to claim three Grammys – at first. In fact, during an interview that appears in the must-watch 2021 Tina documentary, she described the Bucks Fizz version of this song as “awful” and “horrific”. Cliff Richard and Donna Summer

the Nutbush dance in P.E. class? The custom line dance for Tina’s Nutbush City Limits – the first song she ever wrote – is embedded in the muscle memory of people of a certain age in this country, and we sure ain’t mad about that. These dance steps – based on a slightly more complex line dance called The Madison – have naught to do with Tina, however, and were most likely choreographed by the NSW education department.

We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) Tina memorably played the evil Aunty Entity (that chainmail dress, though!) in the third instalment of the post-apocalyptic Mad Max series, 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. She also performed two songs for the movie’s soundtrack: One of the Living ,

THE BLINK BOYS RIDE AGAIN

M aybe one of the most anticipated records in recent memory, One More Time.. . is a staunch reminder that blink-182 are, and always will be, the pop punk band. From their major label debut of Dude Ranch in 1997 to this, their ninth studio outing, the trio are responsible for more hits than word count will allow. With One More Time... , the Californians have penned a true love letter to their roots. When Tom Delonge’s iconic drawl cuts in, we understand the band no longer has a phantom limb. (Co-founder Delonge has been absent from blink's line-up since 2015,

his position filled by Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba for two albums: 2016's California and 2019's Nine .) Silly lyricism, shotgun drum work from Travis Barker and an all-important sense of fun abound; One More Time... is the album every blink fan has fantasised about for more than a decade. Terrified is a clear standout, a short, sharp, slap-in-the-face tune that conjures joy from its very first notes. A record that easily rockets into the wheelhouse of the best they’ve ever made, the album pulsates affection from (and to) a band that defined a generation – and will
