Ready For Anything
Motorola’s “Ready For” system makes it easy to connect to TVs, monitors, or PCs. Play movies, games, or make and take video calls on the big screen using your phone as a remote control, or share files to and from a PC instantly.
The new Motorola Edge 40 sports a stunning screen, impressive camera array, and a powerful processor, plus a long list of quirky tricks that will turn heads. Words Michael Irving LIVIN’ ON THE EDGE
can give you 12 hours of use with just a ten minute top-up. Beauty and brawn This beast isn’t just brains – it’s tough and good looking, too. There’s the option for a Vegan Leather finish that’s soft to the touch, and colour choices including vivid Viva Magenta – the Pantone Colour of the Year, 2023. The whole package has been rated IP68, meaning it’s resistant against water, dust, and dirt. Make it your own While some phones are bogged down with bloated software, Motorola keeps the Edge 40 simple with a clean version of Android. And better yet, you can personalise themes, fonts, colour schemes, icons, animations, and much more. Sound and vibrations aren’t the only ways to get notifications – you can set a light along the edge of the Edge to flash in different colours to indicate messages, calls, or alarms. Interactions don’t have to be limited to taps and swipes, either. You can set shortcuts to different gestures – twist your wrist to open the camera app, make a chop motion to turn on the torch, or double-tap the back of your phone to jump straight to a certain app.
Screen sleekness The display is the first thing you usually notice with a new phone, and the Motorola Edge 40’s is a doozy. You’ll be greeted with a 6.55-inch pOLED that curves around the edges to get rid of any distracting border. Content looks better than ever with a higher-than Full HD resolution, HDR10+ for vivid colours and deeper blacks, and a 144Hz refresh rate for silky smooth motion. A photography powerhouse The Edge 40 packs a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide lens on the back, plus a 32MP selfie cam. The main camera houses the widest aperture available in any smartphone, so it’s unmatched in letting in light for clearer shots in the dark. The ultra-wide lens lets you capture the entire scene in a frame four times wider than standard, while the Macro Vision lens gets up close and personal with tiny subjects. Having all this at your fingertips will elevate your photos and videos. Shoot in up to 4K resolution, slo-mo or timelapse, or artfully blur the background to your liking to make your subject pop. Chips to go Everything is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset with 8GB memory, which runs energy-hungry apps and activities while sparing your battery life. A generous 256GB of built-in storage space ensures you have room for all your photographic creations.
Charging ahead
To keep you going all day, the Motorola Edge 40 runs on a juicy 4,400mAh battery, which can last up to 30 hours per charge. If you need a quick pick-me-up, the 68W TurboPower charging
