WHAT’S COMING IN OCTOBER?

1 What’s the first game that you remember playing? I can’t remember the exact one, but it was on my grandad’s Commodore 64. Visits to my grandparents when I was four years old basically equated to Purple Turtles, Pitstop II, Frogger, and having sausages for tea! finished? Elden Ring . I play a lot of games to keep on top of what’s going on, but that means I don’t often get to finish them. Elden Ring was a revelation. I’d bounced off Dark Souls and Bloodborne before, they never really snagged me. But Elden Ring ... I knew if I didn’t finish it then I’d regret it, so I just mainlined it for a few weeks solid. 3 What’s your favourite video game or video game series of all time? I only get one? Umm... Quake II/III . It’s not so much the game as the people and the point in my life – find me those people again and boot up Quake III and I’d be in heaven again. 2 What was the last game that you Creative director on F1 23 at Codemasters/EA. FORZA MOTORSPORT The next track-based iteration of the legendary Xbox series is going back to its roots by name, but it’ll look like nothing that has come before it. Harnessing all the technical wizardry of the latest hardware, such as 4K graphics at 60fps and on-the fly ray tracing, this is set to be the shiniest Forza yet. Add truly dynamic weather and a cavalcade of cars and it’s fair to say that we’re very excited for this one!

ASSASSIN’S CREED MIRAGE With an eye to rekindling the magic of old school Assassin’s Creed, Mirage will take us to ninth-century Baghdad, at the peak of its Golden Age. It’s set to be more of a narrative-driven adventure, stripping out many of the RPG-styled elements that have been a part of more recent outings. So, that means a focus on parkour, stealth, and assassinations via the return of Basim Ibn Is’haq.

MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN 2 Insomniac’s super-anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive is swinging our way, packed with more thwip-infused swing, swing action. This time out we’ll have two Spidey stars of the show, in both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Both are set to be playable via a simple switching mechanism. The big bad of proceedings is Kraven the Hunter, who we’ll be tackling in an expanded New York setting.

SUPER MARIO BROS. WONDER Age doesn’t weary our favourite superstar tradie, as he’s set to star in this brand new 2D adventure. Fans of the original Super Mario Bros . are going to love this one, which is set to bring all sorts of new mechanisms and creatures to the table, including transforming environments, and even talking flowers that deliver encouragement as you progress. Plus, there’s a Super Mario elephant metamorphosis!

underrated video game of all time? MoonBase Commander . Go Google it. It’s got it all: strategy, dexterity, backstabbing,

luck... I don’t know why it isn’t on every platform known to man.

that you most wish you’d worked on? Portal 2 . So many toys to play with in terms of level design, and it’s pretty much the funniest game of all time. I bet working in their office must have been a blast.

With the Los Angeles Olympics due to happen in 1984, Japan’s Konami seized the day and unveiled Hyper Olympic , an arcade game that featured six events. Players stabbed two buttons alternatively as fast as they could in order to run, in hopes of getting a time that would let them keep playing. Renamed Track & Field in the USA, it was huge – and influenced many copycat games to come.
