Pop-punk-pearl-packed When We WereYoung festival is due to take off in Las Vegas later this year, and in light of JB's ridiculous comp (see below left) along with the event's eye-watering line up, we daydreamed up the top five fantasy performances we'd
GETTIN' AMON G WHEN WE WERE YOUNG
like to see there. Come sonic stargazing with us! Blink-182 doing The Veronicas' Untouched
The reason Blink's Adam's Song is so enduring is because it showed the bratty icons' softer side (much like their breakout hit from 1997 debut Dude Ranch serenading a beloved girlfriend who brings Mexican food from Sombrero's just because, Josie ). Meanwhile, we already know Mark Hoppus likes to slip in a bit of Tay Swift mid- Dammit live, and that's why we want to hear his nasally pipes earnestly declare he feels so untouched, and he wants you so much that he just can't resist you. We're thinking drummer Travis Barker could bring some awesomely frenetic fills to the 2007 track's thumping dance beat, too. The Offspring doing Michelle Branch's All You Wanted We didn't choose this match-up because of Michelle's song title's similarity to The Offspring classic All I Want (which Michelle herself would do excellent justice), but just imagine Dexter Holland's meaty yell belting out the All You Wanted chorus – “If you want to/ I can save you/ I can take you away from here” – and you'll agree that the Californian four-piece would bring some gorgeous grit to Branch's 2001 anthem. Beach Bunny doing Green Day's Good Riddance (Time ofYour Life) At first we were going to give this farewell-to-high-school-and- Seinfeld diamond to 5 Seconds of Summer (we'd prefer 5SoS's Luke Hemmings to tap into his rascal roots with another Green Day classic, Hitchin' a Ride ); its beauty is in Billy Joe Armstrong's almost deadpan delivery, and we'd just love to hear it from the mouth of Lili Trifilio, the sweet dorkus at the helm of Chicago trio Beach Bunny. If Prom Queen taught us anything, it's that Trifilio does slightly tragic ennui better than anyone. The Veronicas doing Motion City Soundtrack's Everything Is Alright What better way to present the call-and-response vocals of Justin Pierre's ode to his own neuroses and social anxiety – his band's signature track Everything Is Alright – than have two singers present its two-faced narrative? “Tell me that you're alright/ 'Yeah, everything is alright'... Are you feeling fine?/ 'Yes, I feel just fine'” – our girls would absolutely nail it. ZKR
Clockwise from Top: Blink-182, Green Day,
The Offspring, The Veronicas, Beach Bunny's Lili Trifilio.

Kelly Clarkson in the clip for Miss Independent.
Thirty Seconds to Mars, L - R: Shannon and Jared Leto
Former cocktail waitress and telemarketer Kelly Brianne Clarkson found herself pitched straight into the international spotlight with the release of her first post-American Idol track, Miss Independent . Co-written by Christina Aguilera (the song was initially intended for Aguilera's fourth album, Stripped ), Miss Independent's chunky funk R'n'B feel managed to wipe Clarkson's TV contestant past clean, and announced the arrival of a freshly liberated pop voice.
It's the End of the World But It's a Beautiful Day by Thirty Seconds to Mars is out Sep 15 via Concord.
