DUMB CRIMINALS Floridian Mack Yearwood was wanted by police for assault in 2016 and in a moment of narcissistic stupidity, uploaded his wanted poster to his Facebook profile. The police soon tracked him down through the social media platform and duly arrested him.

INTERNAL CAMERAS Great protection for apartments or for monitoring children and pets, internal cameras provide that extra level of security.

EVE CAM You can only use the quality built Eve Cam with HomeKit and the big incentive here is that the camera requires no account set-up and collects absolutely no data. Unless you just want to stream, you’ll need a HomeKit hub to set up cloud storage through iCloud to retain footage, but the bonus here is implementing Apple’s Secure Video end-to-end encryption. Clear footage is captured in 1080p, the camera has a 150-degree scope of view, night vision, and features two-way talk, so making sure the kids are doing their homework or chores can be orchestrated through your voice. Activity zones and facial recognition were added to Eve Cam in the iOS 14 update. Is there a subscription? No, but you’ll need an iCloud account. Voice assistant compatible? Siri.

EUFY 2K INDOOR CAMERA Offering 2K video footage, this Eufy has a 125-degree field of view, human and pet motion detection, night vision, activity zones, and an 8 x digital zoom to catch the details. The camera also features two-way audio so you can shout at the dog if it jumps on the couch. And if you’re loath to invest in an ongoing subscription, Eufy has made it easy by including an SD slot that can hold a 128GB card for plenty of local storage. For households with a baby, the AI will sense higher levels of noise (like that dreaded cry) and send you a notification. Is there a subscription?

SWANN TRACKER SECURITY CAMERA The Swann Tracker is a neat compact camera with a magnetic base that can be discreetly hidden on a shelf or attached to a wall. The point of difference here is the ability to track a moving object with the auto motion tracking feature using a digital zoom system. 1080p colour video is captured over a 180-degree field of view. Night vision and two-way audio is included. There are

no subscriptions involved here – all the recording is done locally via an SD card and, in a move sure to please consumers, there’s even a 32GB card in the box. Is there a subscription? No. Voice assistant compatible? Google Assistant and Alexa.

With local storage on board, it’s an option you need to consider. Voice assistant compatible? Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri.

SMART SENSORS These little devices are excellent monitors that can be attached to doors and windows, or set internally to capture motion. If the door or window is opened, a notification is sent to a smart device.

EUFY WIRE-FREE ENTRY SENSOR Requiring a Eufy HomeBase, this is the perfect door and window internal sensor to add to your Eufy ecosystem. Installation is easy using 3M tape already affixed to

SENGLED ELEMENT DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR

Once connected to a hub, the Sengled sensor set will not only send an alert to your smartphone if a door or window is opened, but can also be used to turn on the lights when the contact is broken. Handy if someone is breaking

the sensors. When the sensors are broken, a 100-decibel siren will scream from the HomeBase unit (not included) and a push notification will be sent to your smartphone. The unit comes with a two-year battery. Home security doesn’t come much easier.

EVE WATER GUARD It’s not just crims you need to protect your house from. If you’re away on business regularly or own a holiday home and want to ensure you’re guarded against dreaded water leaks, a water sensor is just the ticket. The Eve Water Guard is compatible with iOS devices only and has a two-metre cable for maximum coverage. It can be positioned under washing machines, sinks or just about any domestic water source. When linked to the app (Eve or Home), an alert will be sent directly to your smart device if any leak is detected.

in or if you’re returning home from a big night out and need a little illumination when you get inside. Voice assistant compatible? Google and Alexa.
