Based on the best-selling novel by crime specialists James Patterson and Liza Marklund, The Postcard Killings is a grisly serial killer thriller in the tradition of Seven . A maniac is butchering married couples in Europe, arranging the bodies to resemble famous works of art and alerting the press in advance via a postcard. When hardboiled NYPD detective Jeffrey Dean Morgan ( The Walking Dead ) discovers his newlywed daughter has been murdered in London, he embarks on a Euro trip to apprehend the killer, as the body count continues to rise. This slickly directed and twist-laden thriller gets our stamp of approval. AC

A gloomy mansion with a tragic history is the setting for this moody mystery adapted from the novel by Shirley Jackson ( The Haunting of Hill House ). The Blackwood sisters (Taissa Farmiga and Alexandra Daddario) live in isolation, shunned by the townsfolk who suspect the older sibling was involved in the poisoning of their parents six years ago. When their cousin Charles (Sebastian Stan) pays an unexpected visit, the girls suspect his arrival conceals a sinister agenda. The great Crispin Glover co-stars as a deranged (of course) uncle – just one more reason to check out this disturbing and atmospheric gothic thriller. SH

Who would have thunk that the 1999 shark thriller would spawn a franchise? It seems that scientists will never learn that messing with mother nature can come back to bite them. The plot of this second sequel goes something like this: The genetically modified bull sharks that escaped in Deep Blue Sea 2 have discovered a great white mating site, and plan to do a bit of cross-breeding in order to evolve into bigger, faster eating machines. Moreover, climate change has made them more aggressive, adding a hot button issue to this enjoyably fun B-movie that once again confirms that it's never really been safe to go back in the water. BS

Those of us outside the USA know the murder-mystery game as Cluedo , and this 1985 flick is one of those rare examples of a board game being successfully turned into a movie. A dinner invitation at a mysterious mansion unleashes murder, mayhem and madcap shenanigans in the fun tradition of the game, with an all-star cast including Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn and Michael McKean tasked with figuring out whodunit, where, and with what? Was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick? Three different solutions were shot, with a different one shown in each theatre, and all three endings are included on this release. SH
