GETTING BACK OUT AND ABOUT It’s only been three months but lockdown has felt like an eternity. Now, with restrictions lifting, Queen’s IWant to Break Free blaring in earbuds, and the migration back into the great outdoors underway, here are some on-the-go gadgets and essential items to complement the welcome return to the outside world. Words Bec Summer PUT ONE FOOT FORWARD The thing about e-scooters is you don’t think you need one until you take one for a spin – and then you’ll wonder how you got by without one. The Segway Ninebot E22 is a collapsible electric scooter, so transit is made easier whether you’re popping it in the boot or on the train. This is perfect for those station/office commutes, sliding down the café for a weekend coffee, or just for going on a fun adventure. And that’s the thing, riding one of these is so much fun; you’ll find yourself making any excuse to get out on it. So, what do you get for your money? As mentioned, the E22 is foldable, weighs just over 13 kgs, has front and rear shock absorbers for a more comfortable ride, and a dual brake system that includes a rear disc brake. Thicker tyres means you can negotiate tougher terrain and expect to get an average top speed of around 20 kph. It can comfortably navigate hills of up to 15 degrees and even has an LED headlight for night rides. With isolation slowly being rolled back, why not enjoy that time on the back of an electric scooter – you won’t regret it. Just remember to check your e-scooter state laws and wear a helmet. WATCH OUT Now that lockdown is lifting, your exercise rate can too, and the Huawei GT2e Sport SmartWatch is the perfect running mate – and swimmers are waterproofed up to 50m. With a sporty design (in black, white or red) and a focus on fitness tracking, the GT2e offers all-day tracking, an optical heart rate monitor and advanced analytics, in addition to all the smart watch features you’ll need including real-time notifications for emails, SMS and calendar events, built-in GPS, and music streaming. You can also customise the more essential data like steps, heart rate and weather. Featuring a 46 mm face and 1.39” AMOLED display, the GT2e is powered by Huawei’s first wearable chip, which delivers high performance on low power consumption – you’ll get two weeks of wear before recharging. Get moving! If you’re in the market for a more traditional-looking timepiece to wrap around your wrist, the Garmin Vivomove 3 combines a fashionable, classic analogue design with all the features you expect from a smart watch. This handsome hybrid has a hidden touchscreen display that pops up when required, providing quick access to essential smart features like email and text alerts (when paired with a compatible smartphone) and a gamut of options for the fitness fanatic, tracking all-day health, heart rate and stress levels. You can even log your daily water intake to stay properly hydrated, and a Body Battery function will measure your energy levels. Lightweight, comfortable and with superior screen response, the Vivomove 3 is perfect for active types.
