M usic: it’ll test your head, and your mind, and your brain, too – in the most enjoyable of ways. For Daniel R. Wood, one particular film soundtrack provided the means of challenging their childhood tastes and became a gateway to an early love of a genre which their emo-adoring peers didn’t want to hear about. “When I was 13 I watched The School Of Rock , with Jack Black in it,” they explain. “There’s a Ramones song on the soundtrack [ My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg) ], and that’s what got me into music. I was into all the punk stuff when I was young: Ramones, The Saints, Sex Pistols, Television.” From there, their tastes flourished into classics like Kate Bush, Sonic Youth, and particularly David Bowie, STACK ROVING REPORTER

whose iconoclastic, androgynous style Daniel loves. Bowie comprises a good part of Daniel's vinyl collection, which spans from the ‘60s and ‘70s (The Beatles, The Byrds, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan) through the ‘80s (particularly the revered French singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer) and up to the present day. They also adore several Japanese bands from the ‘90s such as Luna Sea and Malice Mizer: “They were very theatrical – a lot of make-up, a lot of really extravagant outfits,” they explain. As a player of 12-string guitar (which they got into because of the jangly, ‘60s sound the instrument creates) and fretless bass (“it’s got a certain tone that you won’t get from a normal bass guitar), Daniel is always interested in new
