COOL OUTDOOR TECH While we might well be in the first month of winter, having spent the last three months inside abiding by the necessary restrictions, getting outdoors - responsibly - is a priority for many. And there is plenty of cool tech to play with outside, too. Fancy bombing around on an e-scooter? Flying a drone? We've got it covered!

Did You Know? The first drone available commercially that could be controlled via a smartphone was introduced in 2010 by Parrot.

COME FLY WITH ME

What we love If you’re a noob, the integrated obstruction avoidance means you won’t embarrass yourself – or others – by flying it into a tree. And to stay on the safe side, the Mavic Air 2 also comes with AirSense – a system that alerts the user to manned aircraft in the area, meaning you won’t bring down any Harrison Fords by accident.

W hy do you need a drone? If you need to answer that question, you should probably stick to Scrabble on the weekends. Drones are beyond fun and have now stepped way ahead of the novelty factor, as evidenced in the feature- packed Mavic Air 2 . This little corker has a 48 mega pixel camera that will keep photographers in the hunt and videographers salivating at the prospect of shooting HDR 4K at 60 frames per second and Hyperlapse in 8K. Master the controls and you’ll get 34 minutes of flight time with the ability to edit footage on the fly (pun intended) and post to socials to proper show off to weekend Scrabble players.

Keep in the loop Flying drones in Australia is governed by strict laws. So check out www.casa.gov.au/drones before take-off.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

H ome security is an important factor for all home dwellers that not only gives piece of mind when you’re away from home but can help reduce the cost of insurance. The increased popularity of wireless home security technology has offered a cost-effective – and portable – security solution. Enter the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera , a device with a rechargeable battery that not only captures 2K HDR recording but has a 160-degree field of view to capture any unlawful shenanigans, two way audio and a piercing siren to send unwanted guests on their way. Then there is the floodlight that projects up to 2000 lumens of light that no shadow can escape from. The Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera is two security measures neatly wrapped up in one package.

Did You Know? Australia has four CCTV cameras for every 100 people. Source: Comparitech.

What we love The blinding light is beyond expectation. Once activated, you’ll have your very own night game at the MCG in your back garden. The only thing missing will be the swirling seagulls.
