4K UHD BEST-SELLERS for MAY 2020

after his classic thriller Jaws hit cinemas in 1975, not even the most proficient sharky spin doctor could convince many beachgoers to let their toes anywhere near the water. Basically, Jaws was to beaches what Psycho was to showers. It was a truly terrifying watch back then – despite some occasionally ropey rubber shark acting – and if you let it loose on unsuspecting eyes now, it’s sure to have a profound effect, even more so in 4K Ultra HD. Releasing as a part of the film’s 45th anniversary celebrations,

Universal has gone to town on the movie that really put Spielberg on the map, with Jaws looking fresher than ever. A native 4K transfer has been given the HDR treatment, while a brand new 12-channel Dolby Atmos mix will be enough to freak out even the most stalwart fan of the movie. Extras between the 4K and standard Blu-ray discs in the package will include a making-of feature, featurettes, marketing materials, deleted scenes and outtakes. You’re gonna need a bigger shelf! JAWS Great white sharks had ruled the seas for many years before a young director named Steven Spielberg came along with a tale of a particularly killer example of the species. But

TOP GUN Yes, it’s time to feel the need, the need for speed as the 1980s action spectacular jets its way onto 4K Ultra HD, giving us the adventures of Maverick, Goose and pals looking the best they’ve ever looked. While naturally we’re looking forward to the HDR-enhanced native 4K

THE ELEPHANT MAN It’s now 30 years since David Lynch’s stunning black and white biographical drama first hit cinemas, and its

30th anniversary is being celebrated in great style with a newly-restored, Dolby Vision enhanced native 4K journey onto the Ultra HD format. An incredible cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Anne Bancroft, John Gielgud, and John Hurt in arguably in his finest role. He plays John Merrick, an amiable man who, due to his congenital deformities, is shunned by the Victorian-era society in which he lives, until a doctor (Hopkins) shows him the kindness that he deserves. Look out for a pleasing collection of featurettes and interviews included in this fine release. Out June 17

presentation, what we really can’t wait to immerse ourselves in is the storming new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Then we can pile into the extras, including a commentary and two brand new featurettes looking at the legacy of the movie. If Top Gun isn’t enough Tom Cruise action for you, both Days of Thunder and War of the Worlds also hit 4K Ultra HD this month. Out June 3

1917 Sam Mendes’ incredible World War I drama arrived on 4K Ultra HD armed with a stunning native 4K transfer featuring Dolby Vision, HDR+ and standard HDR treatment. Believe us when we say that Roger Deakins’ Oscar-winning cinematography has never looked so stunningly crisp and clear. This one’s the complete package though, with the presence of a superb Dolby Atmos sound mix that conveys everything from subtle sounds to full-on aural war assaults as deftly as you could hope. Meanwhile, a standard Blu-ray disc, two audio commentaries and an interesting selection of featurettes come as welcome bonus inclusions. SPIES IN DISGUISE When we say that Will Smith is super fly, we mean it – he goes from suave human to, well, rather dorky bird in this cool animated feature from the Ice Age team. And what better cover for a human master spy than masquerading as a pigeon? That’s the thinking of gadget guru Walter Beckett (voiced by Tom Holland). Smith’s character Lance Sterling doesn’t necessarily agree, but must quickly learn to find his wings. As with many animated features, the movie really looks the goods on the 4K Ultra HD format, and the Atmos soundtrack is super-fun. A flock of featurettes, galleries and more come as bonuses on the included standard Blu-ray.
