T his greatest hits album, originally released in June 2009, is the first to span George Harrison’s entire solo career after The Beatles era. While The Beatles’ music was initially inspired by Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Buddy Holly, Harrison’s guitar playing included elements of American country and rock guitarists Chet Atkins and Carl Perkins, whose songs Honey Don’t, Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby, and Matchbox (featuring a George Harrison lead vocal) were included on various Beatles albums. Soon after, he added slide guitar to his repertoire and introduced the sitar, a multi stringed Indian instrument used in classical ensembles, to rock and pop music. In some ways, George was unlucky that he’d joined a band whose main songwriters were Paul McCartney and John Lennon. However, George’s Something, Here Comes The Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps – all number one Beatles hits – are included on this collection as in-concert performances, along with his biggest solo hits My Sweet Lord, Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth) and Got My Mind Set On You. This attractively packaged 20-track collection, released in digitally remastered form, also includes a 28-page booklet featuring rare and previously unseen photos.
