We’re profiling some of Australia’s biggest content creators to see what really makes them tick. Dhayana, aka MissDeusGeek, is a pop culture, gaming and entertainment enthusiast who loves engaging and interacting with others through her brand, Attack On Geek. She’s New Zealand’s first female Mixer partnered streamer, a Xbox and RIG Gaming Ambassador, as well as an EA GameChanger, who has been featured in MCV Pacific’s 30 Under Thirty, as well as Trade Media’s Top 50 Women in Games. Her passion for gaming stems from the notion that gaming brings people from all walks of life together.

A piece of advice that I was given, and do my best to adhere to, is to create content and stream because you enjoy it. Do it for yourself, not others, and to not look at numbers and followers as a measure of success. Another important piece of advice is to find your people. If you enjoy another streamer’s content, connect with them and collaborate. Collaboration and learning from others is not only fun, but can teach you very useful skills for your own streams and content. What are your future plans? Currently, the short term goal is to rebuild my streams after having taken a break and provide my community with a safe place for them to share their interests, game and engage with one another. Long term, I’d love to be able to help grow and encourage participation of minority groups, as I feel that young girls and minority groups deserve to feel comfortable, safe and empowered to play games, create content, and build careers in gaming. Working with girls and minority groups is a huge passion of mine, as I am a firm believer in diversity and inclusivity in gaming.

When did you first start out making online content? I first started making online content at the end of 2015, by writing reviews and opinions on a self-published blog. It wasn’t until the end of 2016 when I began my streaming journey. What got you into content creating in the first place? In terms of gaming and streaming, I only started gaming (after a long absence) after my current partner would spend hours playing games to the point where I would have to wait for him to complete a mission before we could actually spend quality time together. I was watching him interact with people online often

enough that it piqued my interest and I figured, well, “if you can’t beat em, join em”. I took his hobby and was soon invited to create content for Xbox as part of their now defunct Microsoft’s ExpertZone GameMasters programme. After learning and experiencing streaming on the ExpertZone channel, I branched off to create my own streams together with my partner and we haven’t looked back since. What do you think is the best part about being a content creator? For me, personally, the best part about content creation is that it allows you to put your creativity

and passions to good use, while being able to meet others who share in those passions. I absolutely love what I do because I’ve been able to make amazing friends around the world through content, be it my own or others. It also helped me find my voice. As someone who’s always so shy and didn’t quite believe in herself, doing what I do for Attack On Geek has given me such confidence to be able to speak to anyone and everyone. What is some advice you’d give to anyone who would want to take up a career as a streamer or a content creator?
