BATTLEFIELD 1
Everything old is new again, as the Battlefield series eschews the modernity that both it and its competitors usually favour for a trip back in time. It may be the 14th game bearing the name ‘Battlefield’, but this one has us travelling back to World War I. Certain things remain immutable; for starters it’s still a first- person shooter. You’ll also get to take control of an array of vehicles ranging from horses and tanks to biplanes and even zeppelins (oh,
the humanity!) There’s a definite emphasis on teamwork, which will be more necessary than ever considering that the artillery available in WW1 wasn’t exactly as, erm, “efficient” as modern-day weaponry. We’re talking the likes of pistols, rifles and flamethrowers; and when going all melee on enemies’ arses, bayonets and even shovels can come in handy, you dig? (Sorry!) The actual battlefields are huge, with various routes available to complete tasks, and
you’ll play as several characters throughout the campaign. “Yeah, but what about multiplayer?" you may ask. It promises up to 64 players, eight classes, and being able to form squads that can enter and leave operations simultaneously, as you tie an onion to your belt, which was the style at the time... Just when we thought we’d seen the end of that bloody “arrow in the knee” meme, guess what? It’s b-a-a-a-ack! There is, of course, quite an upside to this, for the brilliant and already quite beautiful-looking Elder Scrolls role-playing adventure Skyrim has been given the remastered treatment for all of us now-gen people. Honestly, who can be shagged blowing the dust of those scabby old PS3s and 360s?! As well as featuring a new and improved mix of the main game, all the classic DLC from Dawnguard to Dragonborn has been shoehorned in. We’re just hanging out to find out what on Nirn ‘volumetric god rays’ are... If you liked this, you may also like... Poké-whatever? Meh, that’s like so last week! Yo-Kai Watch is back, and it doesn’t need a fancy accent to be the coolest connected collect-’em-up on the block. This second version does take Poké-cues, however, with two different versions available. There isn’t much difference between Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls (other than the latter sounding cooler), it just means there are different Yo-Kai that can be befriended in whichever
game. Anyway, those meddlesome Yo-Kai are going bonkers again in Springdale and it’s up to you to befriend or battle some 350 of them. You’ll even travel back in time to witness the origins of the Yo-Kai Watch!
