Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) loves two things in life, his friend zone bestie and his electric car. As well as working in a sporting goods store, Stu drives his pride and joy for Uber and lives for five star ratings. But he’s set to lose his gig due to a lot of bad reviews. Enter Vic (Dave Bautista), a mammoth police detective desperate to avenge the murder of his partner. He has a juicy lead on the culprit, but he’s also just come out of laser eye surgery.

Best friends Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) have spent their high school years being as studious as possible, and have consequently landed the colleges of their choice. So with one night of high school life left before the summer break, it’s time to cut loose! Not Just Another Dumb Teen Comedy, this super smart entry combines the best of John Hughes – The Breakfast Club , Pretty in Pink , Some Kind of Wonderful – with some inspired moments

You can probably guess what happens next… It's a classic formula and Stuber deftly recycles the tropes of the buddy cop genre with a grittiness to the action scenes that's often at odds with the comedic backdrop. But it’s the sparkling chemistry between the leads that make this a ride worth booking. Nanjiani’s line in ultra-meek is the perfect foil for the bold boisterousness of Bautista. AF

from Better Off Dead , Mean Girls , and even the first American Pie . The drama is handled with appropriate gravity, and the gross-out gags avoid being crass. Booksmart superbly captures the awkwardness and intensity of being a teenager, and proves that while tech, fashions and language may change, the high school experience has retained an incredible timelessness through the decades.
