TESSA THOMPSON

With a winning smile and the exotic beauty of African, Panamanian and European ancestry, Tessa Thompson probably first registered on viewers' radars in TV series Veronica Mars . Or perhaps it was the 2015 Rocky spin-off Creed , in which she played the girlfriend of aspiring boxer Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). We all quickly fell in love with her, however, as the fearless warrior Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok , where she held her own alongside the mighty God of Thunder and shook up the female superhero stereotype. Consequently, Thompson is now a familiar face and in high demand in Hollywood. The 35-year-old rising star – who sings with LA electro-soul band Caught a Ghost and holds a degree in cultural anthropology – can also be seen as the ruthless Charlotte Hale in HBO's Westworld , and as a member of the female-centric scientific team in Alex Garland's moody sci-fi thriller Annihilation . Following Creed II (in cinemas on November 29), Thompson will appear in the Men in Black spin-off MIB (due 2019), which reunites her with Chris Hemsworth. And presumably she'll be back for more Westworld after season two's surprise twist.
