34 The number on Cars 3 character River Scott – and also its name – is in a tribute to real-lfe racing pioneer Wendell Scott, who overcame tremendous prejudice and adversity to become the first African- American to win a race in the Grand National Series, NASCAR's highest level. Wendell Scott lived from 1921 to 1990, and was posthumously inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015.

1986 Still nine years before the debut of Toy Story , Pixar released an animation short called Luxo, Jr. about two desk lamps playing with a ball. It was a groundbreaking showcase of CG animation and the titular lamp still features hopping on the 'i' in the animated Pixar logo that kicks off all its movies. 30 The age of Steve Jobs when he buys the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm, and renames it Pixar. The price paid was $10 million. 18 th Cars 3 is the 18th feature from Pixar Animation Studios. Since the 1995 feature debut of Toy Story , Cars 3 also marks an unbroken sequence of Pixar movies that have grossed over $100 million at the US box office.

Catmull, in partnership with the better known Pixar creative force John Lasseter, is behind some of the proprietary revolutionary technology that powers the magic of Pixar. This includes the development of RenderMan, Pixar's very own award- winning software that's been used in almost every VFX Academy Award-winner and nominee for over 15 years, including this year's winner The Jungle Book .
