Tapping into the pioneering spirit of humankind, The Expanse delivers gritty thought-provoking space opera in the tradition of Battlestar Galactica . Events reach a crescendo in season three as the war between Earth and Mars escalates, with the crew of the Rocinante caught in the middle and questioning their allegiance. Elsewhere in the solar system, a new monster has been unleashed on Prospero station, and the nature of the mysterious object that lifted off from Venus is finally revealed. Will Holden's mysterious connection to the alien protomolecule prove to be humanity's salvation, or its destruction? SH

Following season one, the showrunners have had the daunting task of taking this series beyond the narrative terrain charted in Margaret Atwood's unforgettable novel. June's sudden change of heart in the season two finale polarised viewers, but as the third season unfolds, they'll realise that revenge is her all-consuming motivation for remaining behind. Make no mistake, there's a bit of Kill Bill's Bride in this handmaid – praise be! There's also a change of scene as the Waterfords head to Washington, and June is exposed to the powerplay pivotal to the future of Gilead. AC

Whovians rejoice! Third Doctor Jon Pertwee's penultimate season is the latest to receive a deluxe Blu-ray upgrade. Classic stories included in this set are the 10th anniversary special The Three Doctors , Carnival of Monsters , Frontier in Space , Planet of the Daleks and The Green Death – the one with the giant maggots! It's a quality season, and once again the bonus features is where these collectors sets really excel. This one's packed with archival material, interviews with surviving cast, as well as an updated effects option for Planet of the Daleks . The real highlight, however, is a fantastic all-new documentary on the Pertwee era. SH

The world's not going to end itself, and when the birth of the Antichrist heralds the onset of biblical Armageddon, it doesn't sit well with the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and his angel pal, Aziraphale (Michael Sheen). The pair have been living it up in England and don't want to give up comforts like good bookshops and the music of Queen. So they set out to sabotage the apocalypse, creating even more chaos in the process. Based on the beloved novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is a wonderfully whimsical comic fantasy from two masters of the genre. SH (See page 20).
