ASSASSIN’S CREED: SYNDICATE

If you’ve a taste for historical travel but not the budget (or the time machine), from the Crusades to the Renaissance, the Colonial Era to the French Revolution and beyond, the Assassin’s Creed series has certainly been your friend over the years. Now it’s time to visit merry old England – not that it was necessarily that merry in Victorian times. It is, however, the time of the Industrial Revolution, opening up all manner of exciting opportunities for this episode’s protagonists. Yes,

plural – you’ll variously control twins Jacob and Evie Frye. This, of course, introduces another new facet to the main Assassin’s Creed timeline in that there’s a female lead – and Ubisoft’s designers said last year that girls were too hard to animate! The pair have different strengths, with Evie nailing the stealthy stuff while Jacob’s more of an in-your- face brawler type, even boasting brass knuckles in his arsenal. The siblings’ bags of tricks will be needed, for the fate of the Assassin Brotherhood

rests heavily on their shoulders, as the Templars have pretty much wrested complete control of London. You’ll find that you still have various allies though, including Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin, as you zip around six boroughs. You can even go all GTA and carjack... erm, carriagejack!

We’re not sure what skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has been up to since his last game way back in 2007, but we’re certain about one thing – it would have been extreme (likely followed by several exclamation marks). Anyway, the man’s finally back, looking better than he ever has outside of real life. Fans of previous outings will be in familiar territory, with real world locations to navigate and real skaters to be played with. If that’s not enough, you can also create your own like totally gnarly and tubular (hey, we’re down with the lingo!) park from scratch. Power-ups and more add to the experience, which can be played locally or online. Uh, rad!

Nintendo really seem to have a thing for tradies. Obviously Mario is their superstar tradesman, but now they’re offering all of us the chance to get into the whole bricks and mortar decorating game. Forget those boring old Sims and their boring old humanity, for here you get to design homes for the animalistic stars of Animal Crossing. It’s plushie heaven! Well, erm, except that they’re pixelated rather than fluffy. As well as attending to the whims of various villagers, a nifty little NFC reader/writer allows the scanning of amiibo cards to add more customers to your thriving business. Shh! Don’t tell the ATO...
