T here's four main theories as to where the exclamation "Geronimo!" – as something you yell when you're jumping from a great height – comes from. One: A bunch of American soldiers-in-training in the '40s saw a film about Chiricahua Apache leader Geronimo the day before their first parachute jump; one Private was mocked by the others, who said he was probably so scared he couldn't remember the name of the Native American icon in the movie. To prove 'em wrong, he shrieked it as he jumped. Two: It was the name of a popular song on the radio at the time Band Of Brothers memoirist Dick Winters was parachute training. Three: Geronimo himself screamed it as he rode his horse off a cliff to escape the American military (he survived), in a rather Jason Derulo move. Four: It never existed until 2014 when it hit your ears (with a pre-cry of "Hey") via Sheppard's single of the same name. They've a new album out – read all about it on page 52.
