H ello STACKers! The silly season is OVER! The tinsel’s been put away, your mad uncle and his weird presents have gone again until next year, and it’s time to contemplate 2015. Considerable help is arriving shortly, via that wondrous pastime that is attending live music. As for me, I can’t miss WOMADelaide; it’s a must-do on my musical calendar. There are some surprising acts on the bill this year: Gruff Rhys (ex-Super Furry Animals), and Victoria’s own blues guitar- fuelled king of the riverboats, C.W. Stoneking . UK wunderkinds Public Service Broadcasting are

I ate and drank well and I was impressed by The Do . (I also recommend the So Frenchy So Chic compilations.) Now, take a look at The Laneway bill and tell me you’re not going: Benjamin Booker , FKATwigs , Royal Blood and Jungle all on the same day? And that’s just for starters! Laneway is a great day for the act you love and the act you’ve never heard but fall in love with; it’s just that kind of line up. Of course, when you do fall in love with that new band, you can pick up a copy of their album here at JB Hi-Fi or stream your favourite new release via JB Hi-Fi NOW. The AMP (Australian Music Prize) will be awarded again in March; here’s the shortlist of albums from which the the winner will be picked:

The Platters That Matter

9. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis The Third

Angie Brown from JB Hi-Fi in the inner southern Melbourne suburb of Prahran says there’s a genuine cross section of tastes in her area. Vinyl is selling across a real variety of age groups, as evidenced by new releases from Taylor Swift (see below), reissues by hip hop luminaries like NAS, and vinyl re-releases from Led Zeppelin and Australian punk legend Rowland S. Howard. There’re also new releases from older acts like AC/DC and Pink Floyd. “People love the hip hop, in particular. NAS’s Illmatic re-release has done really well. Local stuff too; Courtney Barnett’s EP sold well on vinyl here. But we’re always on the lookout for unusual stuff. Courtney Love released a seven-inch single last year and it actually sold pretty well! The best seller in the store of late has been the late Rowland S. Howard’s boxset Six Strings That Drew Blood (see below).

10. Jose Gonzalez Vestiges and Claws

Shadows in the Night sees Bob Dylan attack the classics made famous by Frank Sinatra (who would have been 100 this year). Thanks to Sony Music we’ve got three copies to give away. The New Dylan album
