Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) is an outcast. He's been plagued by diabolical forces since he was a child and now lives a life of solitude in Rome, West Virginia. But the Devil isn't done with him yet – the town is a magnet for demonic possession, and Kyle's past experience makes him the perfect partner to assist the local reverend (Philip Glenister) in casting out unclean spirits. Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman ( The Walking Dead ), Outcast combines blood-curdling exorcism and small town drama into a creepy package that's full of truly disturbing moments. The cast is
While we’re still pretending that Ben Affleck venture from 2003 doesn’t exist, the Daredevil television series manages to do significantly more justice (sorry) to the unassuming character of Matt Murdock. Left blind following a childhood accident, Murdock was forced to hone his remaining senses, resulting in a superhuman transition that gives him ridiculously good hearing and a steely facade. Charlie Cox stars as the lawyer by day – with his old mate Foggy Nelson (it’s Fulton from The Mighty Ducks !) and ring-in Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) – and crime-fighter by night,
great, too: Glenister's southern preacher (who smokes and swears like a trooper) is an absolute blast, as is baritone-voiced Reg E. Cathey as the chief of police. And Star Trek 's Brent Spiner also pops up as an agent of evil. Fans of American Horror Story are advised to check this out. SH (See page 36)
who intends to take down the delinquent ring led by the illustrious Wilson Fisk (the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio). Daredevil is gripping comic book TV for the more mature Marvel fans out there – especially those that enjoy a good, brutal alleyway beating. Hell’s Kitchen better keep an eye out. AK

For Whovians, this is one of the most coveted of the lost (as in wiped by the BBC) classic Doctor Who stories. With the original episodes unlikely to ever turn up, this beautifully animated version (synced with the original soundtrack) is the next best thing – the Daleks are particularly impressive and often look like the real deal. The Power of the Daleks is an important bit of Who history, introducing Patrick Troughton's Doctor following the Time Lord's very first regeneration. It's also one of the best Dalek stories, with the Doctor's arch enemies building an army on the planet Vulcan (no, not Spock's homeworld). Needless to say, an essential purchase for fans. Take liberal fistfuls of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon , bung in a generous chunk of Django Unchained and simmer it in a Mad Max -influenced post-apocalyptic world. Now if that’s not enough to get you interested in this new AMC series, then nothing is... The show revolves around Sunny (Hong Kong action hero Daniel Wu), a fleet-footed martial arts warrior in the employ of the most powerful feudal overlord in the Badlands, Baron Quinn. Hey, it beats working the poppy fields! Sunny saves a young kid calling himself MK, who has a dark secret – and even darker powers. Taking MK under his wing, our hero hatches a plan to escape Quinn’s clutches and leave the Badlands behind. AF
Following the success of Daredevil , Marvel unleashed Jessica Jones with all the grit it could muster. The title character (Krysten Ritter) is a hard-ass, whiskey-gulping P.I. in sleazy Hell’s Kitchen, where her sole protector is her super strength. But it’s no help when her mind-controlling stalker, Kilgrave (David Tennant), resurfaces and her horrific past with the Devil comes to light. Ritter is as wickedly good as Tennant is terrifying – every word he hisses is full of shiver-inducing venom. This is addictive viewing but you may need a shower afterwards – the down and dirty tone will leave you feeling grimy. SD
Captain America ’s Hayley Atwell returns in this Marvel spin-off series, which remains in sync with the films. Set post-WWII in 1946, Peggy Carter mourns the ‘death’ of Steve Rogers while continuing to challenge the male-dominated environment of S.H.I.E.L.D. predecessor SSR. Iron Man’s dad, Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), is also on hand to meddle in matters and establish a family tradition. With news that a dangerous formula he’s created is to be weaponised, Carter must work behind the SSR’s back to seize the operation. Get ready for eight episodes full of fire and quick wit, as Agent Carter brings new meaning to the term ‘girl power’. SD
