Quentin Tarantino’s Love Letter to Hollywood Bob Richardson – For the Love of Film

Once upon a time in Hollywood there was an actor named Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio). He was once a big screen badass but by 1969 he’s a has-been small screen cowboy hanging out with his stunt double and only friend, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). He refuses to make spaghetti westerns and the TV roles he lands cast him as the villain. He also lives on Cielo Drive, right

next door to director Roman Polanksi and his wife, Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). And there’s a psychopath named Charles Manson prowling about... The 9th film by Quentin Tarantino ranks alongside Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill Vol. 1 as one of his very best. The storytelling is surprisingly linear – not that there’s a lot of plot to speak of, more a collage of colourful events and

moments in the lives of its principle characters – and the recreation of late sixties LA is stunning, conjuring a palpable sense of time and place. Moreover, the film is as much a love letter to the television of the time as the Hollywood ethos. This is Tarantino playing in his own backyard and inviting viewers to unpack the toy box along with him, which is as much fun as it sounds. SH

However, their excitement is quickly quashed by the realisation that the royal entourage includes exclusive

Abbey: The Motion Picture is an engaging extension of the television series, with fleeting moments of progressive themes and signs of changing times. Series’ creator and screenwriter Julian Fellowes makes no concessions for those unfamiliar with the show, giving latecomers the perfect excuse to binge-watch the series beforehand for a more rewarding experience. servants, leaving their services rendered for the visit. This, of course, throws the Abbey into turmoil and the scheming begins. Throw a budding romance into the mix, along with a royal scandal and some oddly contemporary social commentary, and Downton devotees are in for an eventful reunion with their favourite characters.
