So the dad’s picking out the Dire Straits, going ‘I used to love this album as a kid,’ and the kid’s like ‘Oh, that would be cool!’ and they get all excited for the artwork." Gus’s 1000-strong personal LP collection includes some Dire Straits; it’s one of his favourite records in fact (“ Love Over Gold – the first side of that is just the most amazing experience”), along with the red edition of the Blade Runner soundtrack. "People are going back to enjoying music as it should be – they’re sitting down and reading the booklet," he says. "I love old jazz records where you flip them over and on the back it’s got the story of the recording. ‘Miles Davis came down to the studio and met such-and-such; track three started with this and then they jammed on that for half an hour, and then that became this.’ That used to be someone's job, writing that. I think we need that back."

“There’s two Kens in the music department,” he explains. “They tried to call me Ken 2.0, but that didn’t help because I still got other Ken’s phone calls. We have very different client bases. He has a lot of older customers who want to talk about Harry Nilsson, but I deal with a lot of the younger hipster kids that love collecting records – they want the three variants of Parkway Drive or The Smith Street Band.” And that is how Ken became Gus: by his own suggestion.
