The three clips presented revealed that not even the bathtub is safe (is it ever in a horror film?) and that children shouldn’t venture down dark and sinister hallways, leading us to predict The Curse of La Llorona will be a hit with horror fans when it opens April 2019. Next up was The Nun , a standalone film featuring that unholy ghost from The Conjuring 2 , and due in cinemas September 2018. Director Corin Hardy was joined by stars Taissa Farmiga and Ingrid Bisu to introduce a montage of footage that included lots of inverted crucifixes, a creepy Romanian convent, somebody vomiting up a live snake, and sinister nuns, of course. To cap off the evening, Wan and fellow producer Gary Dauberman announced that demonic doll Annabelle will be back for a third film, and will be heading home to the Warrens’ occult repository, putting the relics there to diabolical use. “It’s basically Night at the Museum with Annabelle,” laughed Wan.

Warner Bros. horror imprint New Line showcased its upcoming slate at the second annual Scarediego press event.

W ith last year’s inaugural Scarediego a showcase for the first chapter of IT , it’s synchronicity – or Pennywise – that the first of the 2018 presentations was a brief glimpse behind-the-scenes of IT: Chapter 2 . Director Andy Muschietti is currently shooting the sequel and appeared via a recorded video introduction to the clip, which featured the Losers Club reuniting as adults in the form of James McAvoy (Bill), Jessica Chastain (Beverly), and Bill Hader (Richie), as well as a fleeting glimpse of Pennywise. Muschietti suggested that audiences “bring their adult diapers” when the second chapter opens in September 2019. IT was a tasty opener and the main course was The Curse of La Llorona , from director Michael Chaves and producer James Wan, who took to the stage to introduce the first footage. The film is rooted in Hispanic folklore – specifically a ghost story in which a jilted wife drowns her children in a fit of madness and jealousy before joining them. Cursed to

walk the earth forever, see seeks out other kids to claim. “It’s the perfect story for a very scary horror movie,” said director Michael Chaves, with Wan adding that he wanted to frighten audiences anew with supernatural stories from other cultures. OFF-SITE ACTIVATIONS • The Passage: Project Noah Viral Cell Lab gave bystanders a look at the Top Secret experiment that results in a vampire epidemic in Fox’s upcoming series, based on the best- selling trilogy by Justin Cronin. • Purge City is your one-stop shop to stock up on masks, emergency candles and flower garlands for the annual Purge Night It’s also a cool promotion for the upcoming TV series based on the twisted movie franchise. • Hordes of hungry zombies awaited fans of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead at AMC Deadquarters , where they could grab a selfie with the dead or recreate a couple of grisly scenes from the series. Meat grinder included!

• We always look forward to checking out which FX series will be prominently positioned on the Hilton Bayfront Hotel’s façade during Comic-Con. This year it was the Sons of Anarchy spin-off, Mayans . • The Prop Store is always our first stop in the Exhibit Hall. Sadly we didn’t have the USD 56,000–84,000 to make a bid on a genuine Stormtrooper Helmet from Star Wars: A New Hope .
