through the terrible twos. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 excels not only in the emphasis it puts on relationships and family, but also character development. Drax, in particular, has come a long way in his perception of emotions, and the impossibly cute Baby Groot predictably steals the show. Throw in a slew of pop culture references – from Cheers and Pac-Man to The

Hoff – and Kurt Russell as Star Lord’s old man (genius casting), and you’ve got a sequel that’s as much fun as the original game-changer. With its winning combination of casting, characters and creativity, GotG V2 does what all good sequels should – give us more of what we loved the first time round and throw in a big surprise or two on top of that. We are Groot! AK (See page 38)

To avoid confusion, Pamela Anderson cameos as CJ Parker (after originally declining to appear) and Kelly Rohrbach’s character plays her daughter, who shares the same name. Zac Efron gave Dwayne Johnson all the names to call him in the movie, like One Direction and Bieber. Zac Efron’s character Matt Brody was rumoured to be based on disgraced Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte.

Chronicling the adventures of a bunch of LA lifeguards, both on and off the beach, Baywatch was one of the most watched TV series in the world during the ‘90s. The fact it was a feast of beefcake and bikini babes might have had something to do with it, so the movie upsizes the bare flesh and jiggling cleavage accordingly. The Hoff and Pammy’s boogie boards and red swimwear are inherited by the dependable Dwayne Johnson,

weapons; a dick joke in a morgue isn’t nearly as disturbing as the later sight of Efron undercover in drag; and the climax is literally explosive. Baywatch lampoons the series’ stereotypes in a tongue-in-cheek comedy caper that works on a lowbrow level, thanks largely to the combined charisma of Johnson and Efron. Oh, and watch out for some inevitable cameos. SH

Alexandra Daddario (those eyes!) and Zac Efron (those abs!), who set out to bust a local drug syndicate after corpses and bags of meth begin washing up on the beach. Some of the set pieces are inspired – an absurd fight in a nursery results in a SpongeBob mobile, baby’s bottle and nappy disposal being used as makeshift
