The Last Jedi dives straight into the action with the kind of epic space battle you’d expect to be saved for the climax. Director Rian Johnson is just warming up, however, cross-cutting between Rey and Luke on Ahch-To, Kylo Ren and The First Order’s onslaught, and an away mission for Finn and new friend Rose. Johnson lets the players – both old and new – grow and evolve. Kylo wears his internal conflict like a second mask; Luke has

Chewie. Johnson maintains a breakneck pace, juggling the multiple story arcs without too much slack and raising the emotional stakes. Not all the questions raised by The Force Awakens are answered, but the ones that are will surprise. The Last Jedi may have divided fans, but ultimately, it’s thrilling and grand space opera on an epic scale, just as Star Wars should be. SH (See page 44)

unwillingly thrust into detention together. In what they believed would be a great way to kill time, they are pulled inside the world of Jumanji the video game (and into the bodies of their player avatars). Consequently, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan must all embrace their inner teen, resulting in the awkward and ample fun that comes with the body-swap concept. It’s this aspect that really brings the sequel alive, with the foursome embarking on a quest for a jewel that will release them from the game, interacting with NPCs –

and other jargon that avid gamers will love – along the way. As they fight for survival against rampaging rhinos and a sinister villain (Bobby Cannavale), they learn the importance of bravery despite the odds, humility, and to never cross someone with a strength in ‘dance fighting’. The young and young at heart will love the quick-witted humour and unique charm of this all-new Jumanji adventure. SB (See page 42)
