RENTER FRIENDLY!
If renting is your go, there are several options to keep your home secure via camera surveillance, without drilling holes and causing potentially bond busting damage. Look out for wireless, rechargeable models that can easily be mounted using removable sticky pads – just take them down when you move out, ready to secure your next property. The TP-LinkTapo Smart 2K Wire-Free Security Camera is just one great example of a camera kit that adds portability to the menu. Available in packs of one, two, or four, the Tapo Smart 2K delivers high clarity images, full night vision, and ticks the wire-free box with up to 180 days of battery life. It also features two-way audio, and if somebody or something undesirable should enter your space you can let rip with the unit’s light and sound alarms. Add smart AI detection to differentiate who and what is coming and going, and this is one super-capable addition to your smart home.
ADDING EXTRA LAYERS There are several options that can be incorporated into your smart home to further bolster your security, with all of them working together to keep you and your family safe.
Smart locks are essentially digital keys – all you need is a passcode or smartphone app to gain access. Entry codes can be set to admit pre-approved visitors, cleaners, dog walkers, or guests at Airbnb properties. They can also be set to automatically open via geofencing – convenient for when you’re laden with shopping bags – and many are compatible with voice assistants. Smart locks come in a variety of types, from keypads and cylinders to traditional entrance and screen door locks, and many can be retrofitted with an existing standard lock. Out and about and unsure whether you’ve locked the door? Simply check the status in the app, and if you didn’t, lock it with one touch!
Motion sensors are easy to install and will instantly alert you to movement around the home and any unauthorised access. Importantly, notifications can be customised to reduce false alarms triggered by pets and children, too. Smart home integration enables such functionalities as lights and cameras automatically activating when motion is triggered, adding a further layer of protection.
Sensors for doors and windows, meanwhile, strengthen home security by alerting you when they’ve been opened or left ajar. Installation on respective frames is simple; just position them on main entrances and external access points. They’re also ideally paired with the next item on our list, smart locks.
