A BARBERSHOP IN YOUR BATHROOM Buzzing, trimming, combing, and pruning: there are all kinds of ways and devices to groom your body hair. Words Bec Summer T he first thing to decide is, of course, where you want to keep the hair, where you want it trimmed, and where you want it as good as gone. Once you have a plan, you need to execute it with the right kind of device, and there are two main aspects to consider where groomers and trimmers are concerned. Versatility A fantastic body groomer is dexterous and adaptable enough to be used on all parts of the body – ideally, we don't want to have to find room in the bathroom cabinet for a back trimmer, a cranium clipper, a nostril snipper, and a moustache-mower. If you can find all these features in the one device then you've got yourself a bang-for-your-buck groomer, and many come with a variety of attachments to make things easy. Durability Body hair is typically coarser than the hair on your head, so durability is a critical factor. There are wet, dry, and wet-and-dry options on the market; the former can be fully waterproof for use in the shower, or partially waterproof for use with shaving gel or foam, to protect your skin from abrasion irritability. If you're after the ease of a dry body groomer – which you can whip out any time and anywhere – be very careful not to get it wet.

AVOIDING INGROWNS

Any part of your body that is covered most of the day – shoulders, chest, back, and so on – is going to accumulate more sweat and muck build-up than others. For these areas, use a trimmer with a length setting that allows you to leave some space between the hair and the skin to avoid irritation, and use an aftershave balm on any tender spots.
