bettter (What the f-ck!)”, describing the new girlfriend as “a remix of me." Do you carry around multiple battered notebooks you write these musings in, when you hit upon a good one? I have one notebook that I do carry around. But normally when I have a musing or a thought, I will put it in my iPhone notes. I have a big note called “Ideas” and it goes in that note. That note is really pages and pages long. It takes ages to scroll down – like, genuinely, a minute to scroll down the note. We get big Dolly Parton energy from your vocals on The Band and I (and not just because the song's story takes us across the States). Do you rate Dolly? Which American artists are you particularly into? I’m a huge Dolly Parton fan, so that’s the coolest thing ever. The American artists I love are artists like Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, Sara Bareilles, and Taylor Swift (which goes without saying). All of those women, I think, make such amazing music. Their tone of voice and their perspective is so unique. I’ve loved growing up with them as my heroes and my benchmark. Tell us about your experiences in Australia earlier this year – will we hear an Aussie-centric tour song a la The Band and I in the future? I loved my month in Australia

I'm a big, big, big, Aussie fan... it was probably one of the best months of my life
at the start of the year. It was probably one of the best months of my life. It was so special and so fun. I have so many wonderful friends there, and we made so many hilarious memories. It’s a wonderful place; I’m a
big, big, big Aussie fan. And will there be an Aussie-centric tour song? I guess you'll have to wait
interesting. I really wanted a collection of friends and family to start the album. And the lyric goes, “You wanna hear from all the people in my heart? Well, okay," when it kicks in. So yeah, those are all the people that are in my heart.
The title track is such a brilliant opener for this album. Where did all the little snippets of recorded conversations ("What's he like? What's his name? Where's he from?!") come from? All of those little snippets came from voice notes people had sent me, or videos on my phone. Basically, anywhere I could think of where someone had said something kind of
and find out. I definitely wrote at least one song in Australia last time I was there that references that tour, so I guess we will have to wait and see...

This month ten years ago, Swedish DJ Tim Bergling – AKA Avicii, who passed away in 2018 aged just 29 – was flipping the dance world on its head. Having unveiled his new track Wake Me Up at Miami's Ultra Music Festival in March 2013, some EDM fans were confused; reviewers called the song “bizarrely twangy” and questioned why the young producer was straying from deep house into uncharted waters tentatively dubbed 'folktronica.' But a few months later in July, Wake Me Up was number one around the world, including on the ARIA charts. The then-24-year-old's debut album True went on to completely rewrite the bible on dance music's possibilities.
