- Being an indie kid with a Tumblr account - Taking a copy of the latest STACK magazine from the JB Hi-Fi Willows store, which I'd then cut up and stick on my school books for the year - Wearing said GTM entry wristband to school the next day to prove I had, in fact, seen some cool bands. Being Funny in a Foreign Language by The 1975. The 1975 have been one of my favourite bands since I heard Girls from their self-titled era. It's been fascinating to watch them develop from angsty and indie to '80s pop influenced and now to a more mature, willing-to-admit-that-love-is-clichéd-but important era. The best song from BFIAFL has to be Oh Caroline , a deceptively upbeat track with dark lyrics that make you want to sing with passion, thanks in part to earworm expert Jack Antonoff. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys. This was one of the first albums I bought at JB Hi-Fi . This album is, in my opinion, the best debut album from the early 2000s. Filled with Turner's harsher singing (that hadn't yet reached Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino levels of crooning) and lyrics that leave you thinking about brutal roasts of driving a Ford Mondeo and being an inconspicuous mister. What‘s an early, cherished music memory?
Seeing The Temper Trap and Tame Impala in 2013 at Groovin the Moo. I grew up in Townsville, and that once-a-year music festival was a fun little reprieve from not living in Brisbane, and thus missing out on major concerts. I was only 14, and probably (definitely) too young to attend a concert like that, but it was amazing. The visuals, the atmosphere, the insane drum kicks that I felt in the centre of my chest... It really kind of solidified my passion for music and pop culture, which meant:

Can it have been that long since Midnight Oil's Power and the Passion ripped up the ARIA charts? The anthem comes from the Oils' brilliant 1982 record 10, 9 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and features a solo by drummer Rob Hirst – the only studio recording by Midnight Oil to do so.
