Essential Accessories

Lids on tops Let’s start at the top – literally. It’s the law in Australia to wear a helmet when riding an e-bike or electric scooter. Make sure your helmet has adjustable straps and fits snugly on your head. All new helmets must be safety approved and comply with the Australian standard AS 2063.

Love your gloves It’s a natural reaction to put your hands out when

you fall over, and it’s the same on the back of a bike. Gloves go a long way to protecting your mitts. Designs vary from full-armoured versions to fingerless gloves. They also protect your hands from the sun.

Hands to the pump

Lock it up There is nothing worse than pouring your hard-earned into a two-wheel treasure only to have it stolen. It’s therefore imperative to protect your investment with a reliable lock. They come in various designs, including U-locks, cable, and folding locks. Look for a lock that’s resistant to angle grinders, and it’s probably not a bad idea to use multiple locks if you can; a thief is opportunistic and a bike fixed with two locks may be a deterrent. Use a primary lock through the triangle of the bike frame and attach it to an immovable object. If you can, lock it in a public place. The best place to keep your e-bike secured is safely inside.

A good pump is a vital piece of the e-bike kit. A good alternative to the traditional hand pump is an electric bike pump. They’re easy to use and transport and inflate tyres faster than a conventional pump – and you get an accurate digital inflation guide, too.
