Samsung brings big screens, upgraded tech and a focus on lifestyle to its 2022 range of smart TVs.

B ig screen TVs are an affordable luxury that more of us are embracing with gusto; many homes are now moving from 55- and 65-inch models to a more generous 75” and above. And if you want a truly cinematic experience, Samsung offers a massive 98” model. TVs also play a big part in our lifestyles – a focal point for family and social gatherings, checking news and weather, taking video calls or streaming content during downtime. The design aesthetic has also evolved, with Samsung’s The Frame 4K TV doubling as artwork that’s now almost indistinguishable from the real thing. The lifestyle factor also extends to the domestic environment – Samsung’s Neo QLEDTVs are ideally suited for well-lit areas, delivering crystal clear pictures with colours that pop in even the brightest of rooms. They adapt to suit a room’s ambient light and feature superior backlighting tech by way of Quantum Matrix Technology (which sounds like something from Star Trek ) that precisely controls the backlight functionality of a myriad of mini LEDs, delivering consistently deep blacks and optimum image quality in a variety of lighting conditions. Samsung launched its mini LED powered Neo QLEDTVs in 2021 and have since made some significant upgrades that promise even more detailed pictures and greater personalisation options, as well as adding new functionality to the Lifestyle range. So, what’s new in 2022? First up is Shape Adaptive Light technology that analyses lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen to bring out the best in HDR content. Moreover, 14- bit HDR processing quadruples the greyscale levels

(compared to 2021) to produce the most accurate image possible. Image realism is taken to new heights (or is that depths?), too, using the Real Depth Enhancer – a new intelligent picture algorithm that creates a more realistic sense of depth by determining and then processing an onscreen object against its background. One of the coolest updates is a built-in light sensor that detects local sunrise/sunset times and adjusts the screen’s brightness and tone according to the changes in ambient light, while reducing blue light levels for more comfortable viewing at night. Two very welcome new additions are Anti-Glare tech, which minimises distracting sun glare from nearby windows or internal light sources for optimal viewing day or night, and wider viewing angles (on 55” models and above) that maintain consistent brightness, contrast and colour vibrancy from any position on the couch. The already user-friendly Smart Hub has also been upgraded with a more intuitive UI for curating streaming apps and smart content, reducing search
