SAM TESKEY STUNS SOLO
S amTeskey's debut solo album shimmers with canny spontaneity, coiling round your inner ears like the sun creeping up one of the gum-laden hills that surround his Warrandyte home studio (where the LP was recorded). Primarily livetracked ,Teskey draws incredible textures out of his Neil Young-esque guitars, while the organ is unlike anything we've heard before: its sound shifts and glints with extreme, sensitive beauty, like rain droplets in a warm wind. F rom the very first droning and warped guitars, we're welcomed into the warm embrace of My Morning Jacket’s self-titled, ninth record. It's an exercise in refining and expanding a sound that is hard to imitate, but beautiful and full to hear. Every moment on this record feels tumultuous and striking – taking hints from Edward Sharpe, Alabama Shakes and The Flaming Lips – with individual songs becoming grand and sweeping brushstrokes across the album’s landscape.
