There’s a brand-new Nintendo Switch in town this month, and while the big new thing is its stunning OLED screen, this model update packs some other sweet new features. Words Amy Flower

THAT SCREEN! Let’s start with that obvious improvement on the Nintendo Switch OLED – it’s right there in its call- it-how-it-is name, the OLED screen. If you use your Switch more for portable gaming than docked at home, you’ll notice a massive difference over the original’s LCD screen. OLED technology makes for better contrast, colour and deeper black levels than LCD, with each individual pixel able to be switched off or on – there’s no backlight to muddy what you’re seeing. This delectable new screen doesn’t just look better than ever, it’s also bigger than ever. It clocks in at seven inches (diagonally), as compared to the original Switch’s 6.2
the original 32MB to 64MB. If you have plenty of download games then you’ll still want to jam a MicroSD card into its slightly relocated slot, but this increase in memory makes things quite a bit less stressful when it comes to storage management. SOUND ADVICE If you ever rely on the Switch’s internal speakers for your gaming sound, excellent news is that they have also been upgraded, to provide beefier sound on the go (or on the table!). Basically, just a handful of Labo creations may need adjustment to accommodate the bigger screen. As the internals remain the same, all games – the really important things - are fully compatible.
Switch OLED, Nintendo have also done some tweaking to the home dock for those who like to play through their TV. Great news is the addition of a wired LAN port to the docking station, offering potentially more stable online play over the only previous option of a Wi-Fi connection. STORAGE MORES! The internal storage has been doubled, from
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of theWild Take to the wide-open world of Hyrule and try not to spend too much time marvelling at the scenery – there’s questing to be done!
THAT’S A STAND! Many of us have had arguments in the past with the teeny-tiny foldout table stand on the original Switch, and Nintendo have listened to our collective cries for something sturdier. They’ve added a wide, angle-adjustable stand to the Nintendo Switch OLED, and it brings a surefootedness that is most definitely welcome.
