There’s something for everybody on 4K in August, kicking off with the weird, wild and wonderful Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory . Gene Wilder’s top performance as Roald Dahl’s titular character will arrive in native 4K, with HDR enhancement. One that definitely isn’t for the kids is Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct . It too is set to arrive with a native 4K transfer, fully restored from the original 35mm film negative, and it’s the full-length uncut version with, erm, all the naughty bits. Finally, there’s legendary director Akira Kurosawa’s epic take on Shakespeare’s King Lear (but set in 16th century Japan), Ran , once again in native 4K.
