Words Anthony Horan

T he clever people at Oppo have always been visually-minded – indeed, before they turned their full attention to phones, they were renowned as a company that made

some of the best Blu-ray players on the planet. It’s no surprise, then, that the new range of phones from Oppo emphasises the display. Described by Oppo as a “panoramic arc screen,” the goal with the Find X3 range has been to create a seamless widescreen view on the front of the device, with a gentle curve towards the edges of the phone so that the 6.4” display is the only thing you see. If you’re a fan of holding a phone in your hand that looks like an almost borderless screen from the future, you’re looking in the

With the screen front and centre, Oppo’s paid a lot of attention to how images display on its AMOLED screens, with its camera sensors custom- made by digital imaging specialists Sony. Using dual lenses and optical image stabilisation, the photo results from these phones are up there with any stand-alone camera, and Oppo’s AI Scene environments and automatically tweak photos to look amazing. The 2021 Find X3 range comes in three different flavours – Lite, Neo and Pro. At the value end, the Find X3 Lite is pretty incredible at its price point. Powered by a modest but powerful Snapdragon 765G, it boasts a 64-megapixel camera and a 90Hz refresh rate display, with brilliant image quality that rivals anything at its price point. The Neo adds HDR capability to its larger screen, with a seriously in-your-face 1100 nit peak brightness, making it a great pick for those who love streaming 4K stuff. You also get a processor boost to the Snapdragon 865, and a graphics bump to the Adreno 650. This phone’s the sweet spot Recognition can learn and recognise a wide range of

for everything from streaming video to gaming. If you’re looking for all the good stuff in Oppo’s undeniably gorgeous shiny package, though, the Find X3 Pro is where you’ll want to be looking. This beast of a phone boasts a huge 6.7” 120Hz refresh rate screen with a massively increased resolution. It’s got the Snapdragon 888 5G power plant on board, the fastest Adreno graphics, tons of storage and memory, and a camera to rival anything on the market. With dual primary 50-megapixel Sony sensors, a macro lens and dedicated telephoto rear camera, it’s taking phone photography seriously. It also handles full HDR photo and video, with a billion colours able to be captured. Oppo has always seemed to push the boundaries when it comes to features in their devices, and 2021’s Find X3 range is no exception.
