Happy 21st! STACK and JB Hi-Fi celebrate the films that kicked off the new millennium.

Ridley Scott reimagined the epic historical adventure with CGI (including a digital Colosseum) and a fiery lead performance from Russell Crowe, who duly won an Oscar. It's also features the final performance from the late, great Oliver Reed. GLADIATOR

The first bona fide Marvel blockbuster, which ushered in the superhero movie phenomenon that continues today. It also gave our own Hugh Jackman his signature role and launched him to Hollywood superstardom. One of the best X-Men films. X-MEN

Julia Roberts became the first actress to win the Oscar, BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for her portrayal of the eponymous, real-life environmental activist who took on a California energy company accused of pollution. ERIN BROCKOVICH

A coming-of-age tale that rocks, writer-director Cameron Crowe's semi- autobiographical music odyssey follows a rookie reporter for Rolling Stone on the road with rock band Stillwater. Crowe received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. ALMOST FAMOUS

A working class boy with a passion for ballet became the feel-good flick of 2000 and launched the career of 14-year-old star Jamie Bell, making his movie debut. The film received three Oscar nominations and was adapted as a stage musical in 2005. BILLY ELLIOT

CHICKEN RUN

Ostensibly The Great Escape with chooks, the first feature-length offering from Aardman Animations (of Wallace & Gromit fame) remains the highest grossing stop motion animated film to date. A sequel is currently in pre-production.
