For nearly two decades,William Brent Bell has been making his mark in the horror world, yet one of his most memorable films, Wer , remains criminally underseen.With the film now returning to Blu-ray and DVD, we put a few questions to the director.

How do you feel about Wer 14 years after its release?
I’m incredibly proud of Wer . We really wanted to do something different within the genre and I think we achieved that. Over time, though, it’s been really gratifying to see the movie continue to build a following and find its audience. What were some of your influences when developing the movie? District 9 was a big influence in how its narrative blended conventional coverage and real-world cameras, creating a grounded feel without the restrictions of pure found footage. Looking back, what do you think Wer does differently than other werewolf movies? Most werewolf films lean into the supernatural mythology of a man turning into a beast. Our
character, and dark humour. I’ve always loved Wolfen and The Howling . And I’m a big fan of Ginger Snaps . You’re now working on Orphans . What can you tell us about the movie? I can’t say too much about it yet, but

Honestly, I’m not sure I would change much. There’s a rawness to the film that I really like. If anything, I think we could have leaned a little more into a controlled, cinematic style for the main camera while still keeping the grounded realism that defines the movie.
