Whether you're powering up your phone, laptop, or the whole family’s devices at once, not all chargers are created equal. There are many options available – from wireless pads and USB-C chargers to power banks and multi-port stations – and this quick guide can to help you find the perfect power solution for work, home, or on the go. Words Bec Summer POWER PLAY Finding the right charger for every device
Charging stations: Power for more Charging stations are great for powering multiple devices without a spaghetti mess of cords. They simply plug into the nearest power point, unlike USB hubs that tap your computer’s power, and can include multiple USB-A and USB-C ports and fast charging support.

Laptop chargers: Watt’s the deal?
Power banks: Juice on the go Power banks are essential for life on the move. A 20,000mAh bank can handle phones, tablets, headphones, and even laptops with ease. Want fast charging? Look for models that support high-watt output and multiple ports to power several devices at once. Remember that power banks need recharging too, and the more devices you plan to charge, the more juice (in both mAh and watts) you’ll need.
Laptops require more power than phones, so they need a charger that can keep up. Phone chargers usually max out at around 30W, while laptops typically require anywhere from 20W for ultra portables to over 100W for gaming or high-performance models. A 20,000mAh power bank can generally fully charge a lightweight laptop once, though larger models may require more. Faster charging depends on both the power bank’s wattage and the device’s compatibility. Also, keep an eye on the connection type. Many newer laptops support USB-C, while older ones might still need a barrel-style plug. Wireless charging: Cut the cord, not the power If you're tired of tangled cables, wireless charging is a simple alternative. It works using a magnetic alignment (or “handshake”) between the device and the charger. From pads and stands to in-car setups, wireless chargers come in all shapes. First check that your device supports fast wireless charging and opt for higher wattage models if speed matters to you. Most phones with Qi2 certification can charge wirelessly, even in a slim (under 3mm) plastic case.
