Flip and foldable form factor

Phones with flip and foldable displays not only look cool but also offer larger screen real estate in a compact, pocket-friendly package.

The classic Motorola StarTAC introduced the clamshell design to consumers in 1996 and now flip and foldable phones have made a big comeback, sporting a contemporary makeover and a virtually creaseless design. Blending retro cool with cutting edge tech, these trendsetting phones have redefined portability, but it’s not just the convenience of a smaller and more comfortable fit in your hand and pocket that has made flip and foldables highly popular. There's the flexibility of hands-free photography from a variety of different angles (flex, prop, or use the phone like

a mini tripod), as well as streaming or making video calls while you’re enjoying a coffee, with the phone folded to 90 degrees in front of you on the table. The dual display – a cover screen for quick access to notifications and apps, and a larger

main screen for multitasking across multiple windows and apps, gaming and watching videos – is another drawcard. Moreover, dual screens make live language translation even easier, where supported – the real-time transcription is visible on both the cover screen and main screen, so both speakers can view and keep up with the conversation. Think of a foldable phone as being like carrying a mini tablet that can be conveniently folded away and slipped into your pocket. And let’s not forget that satisfying snap you get when closing it!

Gesture control Many modern smartphones are now letting you ditch the selfie stick and timer setting function by offering hands-free gesture control of the camera. With just a wave or a simple hand sign, you can snap photos, start videos, and even switch camera modes – no buttons required. It’s smart, simple, totally futuristic, and perfect for group shots, action selfies, or just those moments when your hands are full.
